I'm getting a little ticked here. I have been reading some of the answers to STD questions and some of the responses disturb me. Let me tell you this. JUST BECAUSE SOMEONE HAS AN STD---DOES NOT MEAN THAT THEY DIDN'T USE A CONDOM WHEN IT HAPPENED. It seems that some people are thinking "well dumb a** why didn't you use a condom " For the last time condoms only help a little they are NOT 100% SAFE.

If I am not mistaken condoms are UP TO 98% effective. There still is no garantee(i think i spelled that wrong)

condoms are NOT 100% or even 98% safe. The safety factor depends on if you use them correctly or not. Condoms also do not cover the entire genital area where Herpes or Genital warts can hide. Don't forget syphilis chancre sores. Those can be anywhere outside the penial area also.
LOOK at your partner before you have sex. Would you stick your arm into a dark hole not knowing what lurked inside!!!

You are completely correct they are not 100% effective but the cases of people using a condom and getting an STD getting pregnant are extremely low. At least that is what they tell us, not that you would ever be able to verify those facts.

Of course, the only "safe sex" is to not have sex at all. HOWEVER, there are always going to be people having sex. And, I think overplaying condom failure makes people (read "men" who are often looking for an excuse not to use a condom anyway) think "why bother?" Condoms are still a valuable tool in protecting oneself. Furthermore, most condom failures are caused by improper use, all the more reason to teach people about condoms.

No they are not 100% effective, nothing is and I don't think abstinence is a valid alternative, everything involves a risk and all we can do is minimise it. They do help more than a little though, they are 99.5% effective which is fairly good odds.
Condoms are the most effective way of protecting against diseases and if we aware of our partners sexual past, the risks are minimal. When weighed against the pro's I say, be careful but carry on!

condoms are only 100% effective ....AFTER you have sex and everything turns up normal. haha. Plus, you MUSt find a condom that fits you snug. If not then yada yada yada, and this happens and yada yada yada, you get an STD or a BABY. Have fun with both if you didn't want either of them! :D....don't be a fool, wrap your tool...properly!
