Don't shoot the messenger (all of those who don't agree), this is just what I was told.
Farts stink when you need to have a bowel movement. When you don't, farts don't stink. So, actually, when you fart, you are smelling your boo boo. When you fart and it dosen't stink, your bowels are empty, for the time being.
Like I said, this is just what I was told.

Consumption of meat & dairy products.
The culprit is a gas called hydrogen sulfide (H2S). Meat & dairy have sulfur compounds which break down in the digestive system and produce this gas. Only tiny amounts of the gas are necessary to make a big stink, a few parts per million.
The natural gas industry adds H2S so you can smell a gas leak in your house.
