Yes. The idiot that said no is just that.

We have kept raw potatoes both in the fridge and out of it. We have stored them in the ground and in the basement. They last longer if they are kept cool. They shouldn't be stored in plastic containers because moisture collects inside and causes rapid spoilage. If you're going to be eating the potatoes within a couple of weeks, there's no need to refrigerate them, especially if you have air conditioning. We don't have it and we never refrigerate potatoes we are going to eat within the next couples of weeks and they don't spoil. About refrigerating them: as a kid, I learned to leave freshly grown potatoes in the ground and to dig them only when we were going to use them. Just before winter, we covered the ground with straw, to keep it from freezing, and left the potatoes in the ground all winter long. We went out and dug some now and then, enough to last for a few weeks, and they were so tasty it's impossible to describe them.

How's that for not refrigerating raw potatoes?

Potatoes are best kept in a cool place and just lately I have been storing mine in the refrigerator.

putting raw potatoes in the fridge converts the starch into sugar - keep them in a cool dark place, and check them every couple of days. It's tough to get the smell of rotten potatoes out of the pantry, lol!!

Raw potatoes will convert it's starches to sugar in the fridge. Cooked potatoes are fine in the fridge.

The fridge is the only place I ever keep my potatoes. From my experience, it makes them last longer and plus they won't attract any bugs.

Yes, I do. They like cool dark places so the refrigerator is ideal.

Yes, you can.

White potatoes keep better than sweet potatoes/yams which must be used quickly.

yes, but the artificial cool darkness can cause the sugar content to rise as the starch in the potatoes age

Sure you can. I don't see what harm it'll bring to the potatoes. They shouldn't spoil on you.
