That satement "better to believe than burn in hell" is plain wrong! My belief is that there are people that believe in "god", but not neccesarily as a personal being. Such people are those who believe in doing goodness to everyone. Even an atheist can do the same and live on the New Earth (we don't actually live in heaven, we just go through it to God's thone and return 1000 years later with the new Jerusalem).

I think that alot of people choose to follow or believe in a certain religion simply because it is easier. In a world where convenience has overcome everything, why would anyone want to have an opinion of their own, when they can just follow one thats premade for them. Also, I believe alot of it is because of the image that they want others to see. Good stable family, christian home. People are scared to be different. Individuality and the thought process are taboo. And, I guess alot of people would feel guilty if they didnt follow the normal beliefs. Who knows.

No, that's what those of us Christians call scare tactics. If you believe in Jesus as your savior then you will go to heaven when you die. He doesn't want you to believe in him as a means of fire insurance. That does come from the Bible, Paul says several times that it is better to do this or that than to burn, what he is trying to teach is that sin, coupled with unbelief leads to hell which leads to burning.
Is calling yourself easterbunny just sarcasm or is there a statement behind that choice for your id? Just curious.

Belief IS NOT A CHOICE ! Can you choose to believe something which to you is obviously absurd? I think not! I could no more believe in this magical fairy tale than I could believe in magical genies that give you three wishes when you rub a lamp. This is despite the fact that not believing in genies never gets me three wishes, while believing in genies and rubbing lamps "might" get me three wishes ( genies seem about as likely as the christian god). Funny how hypocrites like 006 above never apply Pascal's Wager to genie belief. Just think what you could do with three wishes.

No.
The logic is like this, there are 4 possibilities.
Truth - Hell exists, Hell does not exist.
Belief - I believe, I do not believe.
Plot them on a chart with the outcome upon death...
****************Hell exists****Hell does not exist
I believe_______Good_______Neutral
No belief_____Really Bad____Neutral
Given that you have no control over whether hell exists, you have two options, believe or not. Looking at that chart, it is apparent that choosing to believe is a better choice.

Whether we like the thought or not, Hell IS a very real place. Hell is just as real as Heaven to a true believer! On the Mt of Olives, Jesus tells the disciples: in Matthew 25: 31-46 "31 When the Son of man shall come in his glory, and all the holy angels with him, then shall he sit upon the throne of his glory:
32 And before him shall be gathered all nations: and he shall separate them one from another, as a shepherd divideth his sheep from the goats:
33 And he shall set the sheep on his right hand, but the goats on the left.
34 Then shall the King say unto them on his right hand, Come, ye blessed of my Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world:
35 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me drink: I was a stranger, and ye took me in:
36 Naked, and ye clothed me: I was sick, and ye visited me: I was in prison, and ye came unto me.
37 Then shall the righteous answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, and fed thee ? or thirsty, and gave thee drink?
38 When saw we thee a stranger, and took thee in? or naked, and clothed thee ?
39 Or when saw we thee sick, or in prison, and came unto thee?
40 And the King shall answer and say unto them, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye have done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, ye have done it unto me.
41 Then shall he say also unto them on the left hand, Depart from me, ye cursed, into everlasting fire, prepared for the devil and his angels:
42 For I was an hungred, and ye gave me no meat: I was thirsty, and ye gave me no drink:
43 I was a stranger, and ye took me not in: naked, and ye clothed me not: sick, and in prison, and ye visited me not.
44 Then shall they also answer him, saying, Lord, when saw we thee an hungred, or athirst, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not minister unto thee?
45 Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me.
46 And these shall go away into everlasting punishment: but the righteous into life eternal. "
Anyone who believes in the Glory of Heaven NEEDS to believe there will be a complete opposite without God....and that "opposite" is called Hell. God will sort out the sheep from the goats (true believers from non-believers and fakes), let Him do the sorting, but think about where YOU want to spend eternity!
