A good starting point is to first understand the software development process. Look it up in google and do some research. When you understand that process, go to Microsoft and look up the "Express" versions of their new Visual Studio.net 2005. Its a very modern, up-to-date software package that can be used by individual software developers and teams alike. Run through some of the intrductions that come with the express editions and then find some tutorials online. Once you have a firm grasp of a language, then your ready to start building your own projects. Decide on an end result, figure out your input, and output, and then write the code to do the processing.

A good starting language is typically Visual Basic.net or Visual C#.net.

You need a super MANPOWER and brain too. It takes lots of work time and thinking to create a software, It takes teams but not a single person. IF you want your own software learn how to programm and then find a team of computer programmers. The hardest thing is not actully making the programming , but actually what to MAKE, almost all softwares that you could possibly made have all been made, bigger and better. So i think it would be totally a waste of time trying to make your own software. Sorry ,but i have to tell you the truth

Smart try to walk first then try to run. Meaning learn to program and then think of the software you want to create. write down what the software needs, GUI, does it needs any graphics (Picture). If you are not Artist then you have to hire one. Now the problem starts here. So think before you fall flat down on your face.
