The Catholic faith is completely wrong on this. Look at this page and scroll down just a bit to the part on Catholicism...

Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

Peter was in fact, the pope, long before the New Testament of the Bible was ever written.

There are several portions of NT scripture that deal with this, but Protestant tradition denies them, even though history - and the fact that the Catholic Church STILL has a pope, proves them totally wrong.

In case no mentioned it, God himself set up a hierarchical system in heaven, for his angels. So it's no surprise that he set up a similar system for the bishops of his universal church here on earth.

And now a few questions for my Protestant brethren:

Where in the Bible do we find God telling anyone:

1) To write either the Old Testament or the New Testament?

2) That the Bible is the sole faith authority?

3) To break away from the one, true church that Jesus founded, and start a new one?

No where in the Bible does it say a church should have a pope. Jesus is the head of the church, not a man.

Mat 16:15 He saith unto them, But whom say ye that I am?
Mat 16:16 And Simon Peter answered and said, Thou art the Christ, the Son of the living God.
Mat 16:17 And Jesus answered and said unto him, Blessed art thou, Simon Barjona: for flesh and blood hath not revealed it unto thee, but my Father which is in heaven.
Mat 16:18 And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

It doesn't. some mistakenly believe that Paul was the first pope. but the whole pope thing is wrong because Jesus is our only intercessor that we should go to.

Jesus said to him in reply, "Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father. And so I say to you, you are Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church, and the gates of the netherworld shall not prevail against it. I will give you the keys to the kingdom of heaven. Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven; and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:17-19)

The Catholic Church believes the Lord made Simon alone, whom he named Peter, the "rock" of his Church. He gave him the keys of his Church and instituted him shepherd of the whole flock.

With love in Christ.
