The price depends on the size/weight. UPS, DHL or BAX would be your best bet, shop around and see which has the best price, you can get quotes via their websites. Usually the best way to ship something would be to ship to a friend or someone you trust at your destination and pick it up there. This definitely makes the whole airport experience much more convenient, and allows you to take more stuff. However, I only think it'd be worth it if you were staying somewhere for at least 1.5-2 weeks.

Yes, But I was the pilot of a single engine plane with three passengers . any luggage would make the aircraft over gross weight.
Quite common in the general aviation community.
I have found that using Trailways/Greyhound is the best bang for your buck.

I always check it. I have never had any of my under ware stolen. That would get me to ship it. My guess is that it would cost anywhere from $25-$50. It all depends on which cargo company you use and whether you use ground or air, express or "priority mail".

Yes, through my friends...actually we were supposed to fly the same destination but I couldn't due to some reasons...I have really nice friends, that they took extra weight with them...not expensive at all...was convenient at the cost of inconvenience of my friends...
