Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines

Format

Yahoo! Answers is a place for people to ask and answer questions in order to share knowledge. As such, please keep your postings to a question and answer format, or they may be deleted. If you prefer to have discussions or chat with others, please use one of Yahoo!'s other community services, such as Yahoo! Groups.

Context

Some content may be more appropriate in certain contexts than others. For example, questions regarding [women may be] entirely appropriate in the [Singles & Dating] category, but are inappropriate [in the Preschool category, especially] if addressed in a sexual or otherwise inappropriate context.

Age Restriction

Yahoo! is concerned about the safety and privacy of all its users, particularly children. For this reason, parents of children under the age of 13 who wish to allow their children access to the Service must create a Yahoo! Family Account. When you create a Yahoo! Family Account and add your child to the account, you certify that you are at least 18 years old and that you are the legal guardian of the child/children listed on the Yahoo! Family Account. By adding a child to your Yahoo! Family Account, you also give your child permission to access many of the Services including email, message boards, and instant messaging (among others). Please remember that the Service is designed to appeal to a broad audience. Accordingly, as the legal guardian, it is your responsibility to determine whether any of the Services and/or Content are appropriate for your child.

Response to Violations

Yahoo! does not edit the content of questions, answers, or comments in Yahoo! Answers. However, we reserve the right to remove content that we determine, in our sole discretion, to be inappropriate and/or in violation of the Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service. Depending on the level of offense, you may risk deactivation of your Yahoo! ID and consequently everything associated with it, including email accounts, groups, posts, homepages, and profiles. If you are unsure whether your content is appropriate or consistent with these policies, please err on the side of caution and do not post it in Yahoo! Answers. Questions and Answers may not appear on all Yahoo! Answers sites.

Content & Usage

Yahoo! Answers is a place where people can easily share facts, opinions and personal experiences to help others. It is up to each member of Yahoo! Answers to maintain the integrity of the community's content. When posting content, please follow these rules:

1. YOU MAY NOT POST CONTENT (or links to content, including photos):
a. to exploit, solicit, or harm minors.
b. that is violent, racist, incendiary, or otherwise objectionable.
c. that are abusive, threatening, slanderous, or belligerent against any individual or groups of individuals for any reason.
d. that violates federal, state or local law.
e. that contains profane, obscene, vulgar or sexually explicit language.
f. that glorifies self-harm, suicide, anorexia, bulimia, or any other practice that is clearly unhealthy or harmful.
g. for commercial or advertising purposes, including classified ads.
h. to vent your frustrations, rant, make statements, or otherwise violate the question and answer format.
i. to post personal ads or your own or others' personal information.
j. that violates the Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines or the Yahoo! Terms of Service in any manner.

3. NO CHATTING OR PERSONAL COMMUNICATIONS: You may meet friends or other interesting people on Yahoo! Answers with whom you'd like to engage in personal correspondence. If so, please use the chat option on your profile page, rather than use Yahoo! Answers itself. Questions that are chatty, or attempts to engage others in personal communications, will be removed. Some examples of questions that do not comply with the Yahoo! Answers Community Guidelines are below. These are just a few examples, and we reserve the right to change, remove, or add to the list at any time, without notice:

1. How are you?
2. Anyone want to chat?
3. What's your name?
4. How old are you?
5. Do you like my avatar?
6. What time is it?
7. Who here likes steak?
8. How many points do you have?
9. Who likes Britney Spears?
