Why coworkers conflict and office politics always happen?

How much quality of trust do you put in yr colleagues?

For myself, i always stay away from rumouring around office politics.On top of that i have my tagline "colleagues will always remain as colleagues unless if i switch company"

Politics is all about power... different kinds of power... it always happens because in alot of organizations people are rewarded for individual performance, or ranked against other employees. Some organizations are based around teamwork and unity, and these organizations may have less politics.
It is always good to stay away from negative types of politics because in the end it comes back to haunt you - or you gain power in an unethical way.

Whenever you put a group of people together, there will always be jostling for social positioning in the group. Just watch children in the playground! Everyone is pushing to be at the top of the pecking order. It is unfortunate, but inevitable. Just like animals - we also have an inbuilt need for a social pecking order and like all animals we want to be at the top. It is a human trait.

When at work there are also other pressures. Pressures from your personal life, the personalities you have to deal with at work and duties required of you. There is also the need to feel successful in your own right and that can clash with other peoples plans. The workplace is socially and emotionally competitive. It doesn't matter where you go, there will always be this undercurrent of social maneuvering and politics.

Just try not to clash with your boss' agenda, they are the important ones!

not in all workplaces but in a lot :
1. some people try to make a good name for themselves with boss.
2. some people cannot tolerate other peoples behavior / habits (major or minor) and some peoples behavior is too major to tolerate.
3. I found myself over the years that if you do a piece of that is a breakthrough from a problem, someone above you presents it to the big boss as if it was there's - upsetting!

i guess tolerance and understanding is important

A lot of it is competition for any promotions that might come along. And kissing the boss' ***, so he will like them best. Like in most groups, you have the majority who are good people who won't stab you in the back, and a few bad ones, who will stop at nothing to advance themselves.

I never trust my co-workers (meaning I dont share my thoughts about anyone to them) I just look at them as co-workers, I dont involve myself with office politics, its a waste of time. I'd rather prove myself with the quality of work that I do. When Iam at work I just work, I do my socializing when we are out of the office. I only trust my friends.....
