Its more of a cultral thing than a religious things for Indians (except for Sikhs).

well in islam it is considered a plus for men to cover their head, especially in prayers. It is something the prophet did. it doesn't have to be a turban, could just as well be a hat. don't know the significance though. women don't wear turbans. but are required to cover their hair. this is derived from sunnah.

Turban? as in hairpiece turban? or headpiece, rather?

Well, i think for some Muslim society, women have to wear it for some reason. It might be one way of showing submission to men. Or it might be for a whole another purpose.

Depends on the wearer. For some, it has no significance at all. For Sikhs, it does, but I don't know the details.

It is religious for muslims and only women wear it but some muslims dont wear it.
