according to christians salvation lies in a concept that St Augustine called 'irrational' (while still believing it), namely the Trinity.

Because the idea was invented by the Nicene Council in the 4th Century based on forged passages and is not biblical nor "Christian."

honestly, this is a good question, but i found it shocking when people would make themselves look like an idiot by qouting things they themselves doesn't really have any idea about. these things came out just when da vince code has come, and people think that everything they read from passages and scripts and interviews from atheists are true. i really can tell which people are dumb when answering... the old testament did mention the trinity, not as a word but only implied. how the early christians divide themselves in this thought we don't know, but even before the nicean council was formed, the concept of the holy trinity was already in the majority of the believers of the faith.

the old testament did not even know whats the meaning of ressurection or how it will be done... this has been implied since every time jesus would say he will rise from the dead after 3 days, no one understads him. yet all christians accepted that indeed jesus resurected.

the holy trinity is a teaching beyond concept and beyond understanding.

like filling the whole ocean into one cup of coffee, its impossible.

The trinity is clearly described in John 1:1-4 in the new testament. The books current condition is a result of very very old manuscripts, which Muslims always question. Though real historian believe they are likely identical. Regardless, is the word "irrational" properly translated? I don't know.

Your "history" is based on people who apparently don't pay any attention to anything that was written during the very early history of Christianity about Christianity itself. Wouldn't you look to early Christianity to see what it was? You appear to be trying to convince yourself or decieve people. Or, perhaps someone has decieved you with beliefs easy defended against.

Further, to me, I can conceive of the trinity easily enough, though completely understanding it is like understanding God in his infinity.

Why then have you come? You speek only deception and no truth. Jesus was fortold in the Bible, Jews will argue about His exact nature. The remaining Jews hold that He had not the Kingly power of a Messiah. Which, of course, if He ressurected Himself from the dead He did. But that is ignored by Jews and Muslims.

We then have a matter of faith. I look, and behold, Jesus was a man who sought to speak the truth only, and did not become wealthy or powerful. No, he died. He had no human motivation. Mohammed, however, had human motivation. He became wealthy and powerful and took for himself many wives. And yet, I am to believe Mohammad, who gathered wealth to himself, over Jesus who healed and did not gather wealth or wives, but thrived anyway.

No, I don't think so.

In Christianity's early days it borrowed heavily from various pagan cults, sects and religions. They would not convert to the new faith if it was too alien from their previous beliefs. The concept of a trinity is just one of these ideas.

It was in 329 AD when Christianity as we know it was "invented" that the Council of Nicene that it was created. It and just about everything else they came up with was made "an article of faith" which meant that if you dared to doubt it then you were condemned to damnation. Pretty cool way to keep the flock under control, huh?

Interestingly in the Bible itself there is no suggestion of a Trinity and Jesus Himself denies quite emphatically that He is God. He says that "God is spirit, not flesh.", "I am not God, I am flesh, a man."

They did but they didn't know what It was. St. John described a mountain of fire in the water during his vision. Could it have been a destroyer? Who knows but God?
In Exodus written by Moses... he described an angel who went before the pillar of fire. Which one was God? The Trinity is considered to be God in Three but Three as One. It's a mystery that even Priests can't explain beyond that. God only knows.

It is beleived that when Christianity was illegal and underground, that Christians would incorporate pagan holidays and pagan icons into their messages, somewhat like encryption, or perhaps to make this new belief more palletable to the surrounding peoples of the times.

By the time Constantine decided to 'convert', the face of Christianity by then reflected the icon.

Because the trinity is a pagan concept used to combine Christianity and pagan religions into one super-religion.
