I lived in America for over 10 years (Massachusetts) and I wouldn't say it's a better place to live than Britain. It has it's charms, and I love to visit, but I wouldn't want to live there again.
A) Bush - Cheney - 'nuff said.
B) I would be unable to obtain health insurance in the USA, so my first serious illness would bankrupt me. The lack of national health is a serious problem. Example - I know someone who suffered from a permanent and horrible skin rash all over, but an expensive cream would hold it at bay. He lost his job through no fault of his own - thus lost his health insurance. Got a new job, new health insurance refused to cover 'pre-existing conditions' - no more rash cream. He can't afford to buy the cream himself, so now lives in perpetual discomfort. That's bull$hit. The richest country on the planet can't look after it's own citizens health, yet the UK can?
C) Worker rights are crap - bugger all holidays, and you can be sacked at the drop of a hat with no come back.
D) Since 9/11 and the Patriot Act civil rights in the USA have been gradually and methodically stripped away, I expect this to continue until the USA resembles a police state.
E) America is one of the most hated countries in the world - as comedian Rob Newman said, most of the other countries of the world are so united in their hatred of America that they have their own flag - it looks just like the American one, only on fire.
On the up side bartenders REALLY know how to mix a drink over there, and the Chinese food is far better. You can own guns, which is very cool, and the old cars kick ***.
To be clear, and avoid flames, I don't dislike America or Americans (my best friend is American, and my father is a naturalised citizen), but I DO despise American foreign policy, and neocons.

I had the chance to live there many years ago, spent a lot of time there but.........no, I couldn't live there, yes the cost of living is MUCH better than here, but really that's it.
Saying that my experience was of the mid-west, the US is such a huge country that in different areas the culture is totally different, for instance based on what I know I would probably fit in with no problems in New England or in the North West, Seattle etc.
Their music is crap though and unless you just want to watch and hear commercials every 2 minutes don't even bother watching TV or listening to the radio!

I would love to have the opportunity to find out what life would be like in the US. I resent paying a TV license, although I appreciate the work of the BBC. Yes us Brits are pompous and condescending searching for every opportunity to put other nationalities down. However, the question of teeth really is down to the individual, there are Brits who look after teeth, they are those who don't, I'm sure that's the case in the US.
On the question of fashion, when did living in a football (soccer) shirt, become high fashion? Or living on fish & chips, pies and Indian take aways become the equivalent of the mediterranean diet?
The main advantage of living in Britain for me is its proximity to other European nations. My concern with the US would be the access to health care if you're out of work.

I am not American but I would say America is a better place to live!
I really must look into this 'medical' thing, I'm pretty sure the American health system is not much more expensive than the Brits pay from their wages each month??

I have friends who live in America they only reason why they like it is because they get paid an english wage! They have alot more money to play with now, as things are so cheap over there.

It's cheaper and you can carry a gun in America. Plus the people don't have that annoyingly condescending accent. Our teeth are clean and straight, our judges don't wear wigs.

As for the teeth thing.... most americans don't have any.
Also... our men are real men who don't feel the need to carry a gun!
