does anyonse else agree that we should stop taking heavy books to school and start taking cds instead i mean you can easily fit 10 books worth of info on one cd its 2006 school should start giving students cds instead of heavy and thick books plus instead of spending hundreds of dollars on books schools would only have to pay a few dollars for a cd think of the money the schools will save and how much easier it would be for the students

what do you think?

a lot of people have been talking about the schools buying computers and i started thinking sowhat if instaed if a a regular computer how about a very basic one were you would only be able to put the cd in and just "change the pages" it wouldnt have a programs list or my documents or stuff like that just out the cd in and start reading.

i hope what im saying is making sense

Great idea...

But had U thought that the school had to spend million of dollar to install PC for each student in each school... And how about when the student PC breakdown... they need to spend the money repair it... It is not just the cost of the CD and book...

If each student bring it own laptop... Had U thought that not all family can afford one....

But I do think these idea will come true in the future...

i think that sounds good, however, every student would need to have a computer at home in order for that to work, i say this because you would need to accommodate different learning styles...the idea is great, but it could use some refining. work on your ideas, make them well rounded and complete and you will go far. dare to dream, without ambition we can get nowhere.

after reading some of the other answers, i should add, as a college student, that the books are heavy. doctors have concluded that more than 7 lbs causes a great amount of back damage. each book generally weighs this much. i have back problems now because of carrying a backpack in middle school and high school. this is not only a great idea, but students will be healthier as a result.

also-im not saying we should have all books like this, only text books, and only some, still print the regular books for those prefering the traditional ways. the idea needs a little work..... it will be most likely to happen in the future though.

blessed be.

No, nothing compares with a good set of book. And in fact, a child should know the love for books. Specially the time that parents will hold their child on their laps and read their child a story. That has a very big impact on the child's life. Aside from knowledge, security, love affection and moral support too. Sharing a book is not a small thing, people just don't know it. And also a book is cheaper and has longer lifespan than a CD. Hope I helped you.

I think it's a great idea - if by CD you mean something where the students still have to actually read, just on their computer screens instead of in a book. If you are thinking more along the lines of "books on tape" where students merely listen to the materials then I disagree because everyone will be illiterate!

I think you guys can lug the same crap we did to school. Who is going to put all this stuff on cd's? Who is going to come up with the money to pay people to do that. More plastic to pollute the earth six months after they are made because they are out of date. And then the extra money to ensure there is a computer at every desk, and how are the poor people going to be able to afford to pay for these c.d.s? And are you gonna pony up the money to make sure everyone has a laptop or a home computer?

I also don't think I should have to pay school taxes, I went to a parochial (private) school and have no children, and you guys are trying to think up ways to make me pay more?????
It may seem like a good idea to you but you are not the one paying for it.

What about the people who can't afford laptops, who are at school on scholarship and get their books from the library. I'm sure the publishing houses who make a fortune by selling books to schools would find a way to block or just say 'screw you' when they get an order for 1 digital version rather than 1000+ printed copies. In time it may come to everything on paper being available on cd but there are times when books are better.....

You really think it would be easier with cds? Then I suggest you try reading 200 pages of a book on the computer. See how your eyes feel. Then we'll talk.

let me teach you a lesson

books do cost hundreds of dollars
but you also need something for the cds to run on ie: labtops but labtobs cost hundreds of dollars for just one

wat if a kid breaks it
instead of 40 for losing a book he will end up paying 300 dollars

desktop pc's
on desk desktops are big and bulky and how do you know that the kid is going into something else like playing games or placing keyboard trackers on them

well i think it should be an option depending on evaluations of how each individual learnsw best!! GOOD question im impressede because some kids are audile(hearing)learners some are tactile(touch) and some learn best by reading(i fporgot the term) and still others need all three to catch on good so that would be a good idea for schools cause like me im pretty advanced but in jr high i didnt do good cause of there teaching styles but in high school i did excellent!!

Its a good idea but recording the info from books to Cd would require an expense that you are not accounting for.
