I came across this site awhile back and it has been really useful. They use simple words to describe complex things about cameras. I believe if you search thru past articles, ALL of the things you mentioned are covered.

Any basic photography book will tell you all you need to know about points 1, 2, 3, and 5. Regarding points 4 and 6, it should discuss various types of cameras and lenses and their attributes & usages.
I can personally recommend the ancient but still fantastic books 'The Camera' and 'The Print' by Ansel Adams. These are also aimed at the hobbyist, but get more into technical details. (Volume 3 of the series, 'The Negative', can safely be replaced by a Photoshop class.)

Yes get A Book The Joy of Photography. Damn Good book . If You can still read a book . These things are fun but there Books to teach You before computers. But Your girl in front of the cam and go. Injoy

picasa is a Google's photo software. It's what should've come with your camera.
It can Edit , organise and Share you picture and small video clips.
It's very easy to use and is free, just like Google
