Anyone who pays close attention to the Old Testament will see that God is rather rough around the edges - rudely barking rebukes and committing deplorable social faux pas, such as indelicately telling people to kill their children without so much as a perfunctory "please." Clearly, the God of the Old Testament is no one a civil person would have in his home. Jesus, on the other hand, while hardly poised, is so thoroughly pleasant (except to that dreadful mother of His, who was always pestering Him in public for more wine), that one can easily overlook his lack of polish. Every time I find myself wanting to correct Him on some inartfully phrased request or awkward social contretemps, I remind myself "Well, he is rather well behaved for a carpenter."

Ok , i will try not to be hypocritical because I am having a difficult time struggling with religion right now, but you should go to bibleevidence.com and read here. This helped me to understand a lot more of the bible on my path to believing it. God is our maker and is bad and punishing to those that don't follow him. However, there are many martyers that have died painful deaths, but they are supposed to now be in heaven. God did not make Abraham kill his son !! He stopped him before he did it. Also, remember how long ago this was written. I am sure that the translation is not 100 % what had really happened. ALso, many peopole believe that some of the stories in the Bible are symbolic and should not be taken literally.

You need to realize that we here in this time do not live by the OT we live by the NT which Jesus was the major part of, His greatest command was this,
30Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'[a] 31The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.'[b]There is no commandment greater than these."

Hmmm, now that's the most arrogant statement I've seen in a while. I'm not Christian, but I don't believe in putting down the heart felt faiths of others. You might want to get the jaundice in your eyes checked. I could effect your social kills.

I love that Vengeful, wrath loving God. Not that wimpy one from the New Testament. He needs to destroy another Sodom and Gammorrah. Mmmm, destruction.

I'm sure if he had to speak to anyone in these times, he would have to talk "ghetto" or "gangsta"-talk. Cause all of those freaks are in some serious need of God.

God can only talk to man if man will listen.
The Jews were rough themselves......so God was rough with them.

Well, if it's all true...god would be our father. And with how disrespectful his children are of his rules, he he would have to be stern and gruff to ensure that they listen to him.

Yes, it's certainly not a romance novel or children's fairy tale. Not very swashbuckling, either.

God, doesn't need anything. You, on the other hand, need everything. Those of us that believe in him, have everything we need.
And yes, it's just you.
