I keep having trouble getting to sleep every night, as in I can't get to sleep before at least 3 am. I've tried everything, even sleeping pills from time to time, but nothing seems to work for me. I'm not insomniac enough to get doctor's help, but it's driving me crazy!

Any suggestions oh how to help me get some sleep?

do you Really need the sleep??
thomas edison averaged 4 hours of sleep per nite,
of course he was exceptional,
you may not know steve allen, the pedessor to johnny carson on the tonite show.
he averaged 10 hours of sleep per day,
and was considered a geniuos because of his composing, music, etc,...
my point is .... if you don't need to sleep...
why worry...
if you are tired... lay down...
i found that physical work is better for sleep than mental work

if u can't sleep at all until 3 am, why do u say that u are not insomniac enough to seek a doc's help? i think that if it interferes with your daily activities (work and school), u should seek a doc's help. limit cafene during the day. exercise so u can get tired. meditate before u go to bed. all these r good ways to help u go to bed. or read a boring book and u should feel sleepy. if not, just stay in bed and rest up. even this is considered "resting" and should help. but go see a doc. there's no point in suffering any longer.

Get up early so you are more tired at night. Try progressive relaxation (talking your whole body to sleep, one part at a time). Try counting sheep, seriously, if you really picture a beautiful pasture and sheep jumping a fence under the moonlight, it's relaxing. When thoughts intrude your falling asleep, don't beat yourself up over it, but let them go away again and return to your effort to not think. I have lots of sleep trouble myself. The other night what worked was curling up and picturing myself floating peacefully in the clouds. Weird! Find your happy place.
Oh, don't drink alcohol in eve...it often wakes you up once the effect wears off.

A wise man once said - Work you body hard by day and it will let you sleep by night. Get plenty of exercise or do physical work such as household chores to tire your body.

Researchers have found that there's a connection between depression and insomnia. Depression causes insomnia or vice versa. If you are battling depression and have sought treatment, but are still suffering from insomnia--talk to your doctor about ways to combat the insomnia. Treat both separately but simultaneously.

Well first take a nice long hot bath with relaxing bubbles and soaps and afterward use nice smelling lotions and put on comfy pj's. Then turn your radio on to jazz or someting relaxing and lay down in bed under a couple soft warm blankets. Then -this might be a bit immature but-get a teddy bear or stuffed animal and lye your head down next to it.
Hope this works for you.

Go and see your doctor. There can be some physical as well as pscycological changes happening. Talking to your doctor would help you to diagnose the problem and cure it.
