We have an automated litter box (Litter Robot, http://litter-robot.com/) that has a front opening. Three of our cats use the box just fine, going in, turning around, and doing their business properly. However, we have a fourth that doesn't turn around, and as a result, pee comes out of the opening and messes up the step to the box, which the other cats are not fond of. We've tried various solutions, but all we could do is contain the damage with paper towels and a second box with a plate with holes over top to catch the pee and let it drip into the litter below. I'm wondering if anyone has any ideas that we've not thought of. Thanks in advance.

We do have a second litter box available, but that's because one of the normal cats was signalling his displeasure at the mess by finding alternative locations for his business. However, our make-shift solution has helped stop that as well.
I hoping to get the weird cat to be able to pee in the automatic one properly. The funny thing is that she does #2 normally.
