My niece and nephew say their mother emotionally abuses them. She also keeps them in their house and has them do chores from 7 a.m till bed which is priority over school work during school. She moves them and hides them from us (Dad's amily). Their Dad is no longer a part of their lives' so I am lost on what I can do to help them. Next school year they begin homeschooling; my niece starts high school next year. They are both against it but fear saying that to their Mom in fear of punishment. They both want to live with me or their grandmother but we are at loss of what we can do according to California law. They also say their Mother does drugs but I have no physical proof of anything. Help please
My niece is cutting on herself and is depressed, my nephew has ADHD which she refuses to treat
They are 12 and 14

CALL DYFS first thing in the morning. If you sit idly by you are too guilty by not reporting it.Let child protective services handle getting the children out of immediate harms way.Be sure to tell them you are willing to take the kids into your home. Most states will try to place the kids with family members. Then through talking with DYFS and through counseling the children can tell authorities their fist hand view of the situation.Be sure to tell the kids it is OK to talk to you and the authorities about what they have experienced.Tell them not to be afraid that mom will retaliate ,and explain that she might give them a sob story or make them feel guilty.Help them through this.Every child has the right to grow up HAPPY as well as Healthy.

First of all is pretty peculiar that you pointed out the drugs at the end as if an after thought, everything else you stated in the beginning is not illegal. My advice to you is go have your own kids instead of trying to steal someone else's. And get a life so that you stop worrying so much about other peoples.

Grandparents have rights in the state of California. Talk to an attorney and tell him of your concerns and that you wish for either visitation or custody. If the attorney won't do anything he/she might be able to point you in the right direction. If you believe they are in immediate danger, call child protective services. Good luck.

Call Social Services and report what you do know. Tell them what your neice has told you as well. Have other member's of the family to report her as well. If your neice is cutting herself and the nephew isn't getting treatment for his ADHD, this might thwart them to investigate further.

Good luck and God Bless.
