Maybe you can't. I get scared at scary movies. That just means they are doing there job. You could try not getting involved in the movie (avoidance) or maybe just allowing yourself to be scared(acceptance). It is natural. If you really don't want to get scared don't see the scary movie. Music does make a big difference in people getting scared. Maybe you should cover your ears instead.

This is easy. Watch the scary movie on DVD. When you find a very scary part, hit pause. Then mute the sound, and rewind it just before the scary part and advance it one frame at a time with no sound. If you watch it slowly enough, you will get to see how they put the effect together a little better. Also, this way, you won't have it flashing with the loud music and sound effects in the soundtrack. Just watch it that way several times, and slow motion if possible on your DVD, and you will get use to it. Then watch the same scary part again with no sound. Then watch it again normally, but with the sound turned down to a soft volume. You do that, and then it won't seem to scary. Also, if the DVD has any features on it, that show you how the movie was made, those are good to watch too because they show you how it was put together. After a while, when you see some scary, you will start to wonder how they did that and become less scare. Give it a try! Oh, and also watch them during the day with the lights.

Scary movies use to scare me until I watched The Exorcist. I was in 6th grade and it scared me so bad! I've never been scared of that movie after that, or any other movies. Only two explanations there: Either I scared myself bad enough that I wasn't scared anymore or Scary movies really aren't that scary.
I don't suggest watching The Exorcist though. Not that it is scary or something, but if I'd hate for you to be sleep deprived if it did scare you.
Don't be scared though. When you watch a scary movie, look at it as something fun. Poke fun at it if you have to. Here's a little story: I went to this haunted house thing in my town back in 3rd grade. I went through clinging to this lady and bawling. I ran out when it was done, leaving the kids I went with, and never went near one again. This year, I went with some friends to this ghost tour thing that was pretty much like a haunted house- people jumping at you, etc. I was scared, but I walked in knowing that nothing could happen to me and that it was suppose to be fun. When a "ghost" popped out from behind something I'd be like "Hey, what's up bro?" and continue on. I had a great time!
Just don't let it get to you and have fun with it. And you don't have to watch scary movies. It doesn't make you a coward or anything. People that say they're cheesey are right. They are. If you pay attention to everything, they are cheesey. People only watch them because they like to be scared, but be safe at the same time, or they just like the entertainment.
I hope something here helped in some small way. Peace & Best!

I used to be terrified of scary movies, I couldn't even be in the house when someone was watching one. But I just sat myself down and just started watching them. Just force yourself to see it, and watch more for the technical aspect. For the first few just try to figure the plot, watch for the character development etc.
The more you pay atention the less scary it becomes (you gotta just trust me on this one) After doing that for a while, you'll be so used to them and you won't get as scared.

The best way to get over it is to avoid waching scary movies altogether. Wait until you're older, mabe in your twenties, then you can try watching it again. If that do not work, then scary movies aren't for you at all.

I wouldn't worry about it... the movies are designed to scare you and thus achieve their purpose. Watch some fun movies and forget about the scary ones... there are so many good movies to see, why watch one that upsets you?

There's enough stress in the world, maybe entertainment should help you relax instead. Forget them, for the most part they're poorly made anyway and stupid.
