Ah. And here we come upon (yet another) clear instance of "intelligent design" (creationism) being based on faith.
After all, if humans...indeed, any or all life...were "designed", rather than evolved, then it would actually make perfect sense to critique that design. And, looking at life as it is, it's quite clear that the "designer", if any, wasn't very good at what he was doing. Or he had no motivation, and instead chose traits at random.
Odds are, he knew what he was doing - building chemical machines is tough stuff.
But if this "designer" just chose traits at random, then the whole concept of "intelligent design" fails instantly; the phenomena can be much more easily and sensibly explained by evolution than by some random cosmic sociopath.
Worse yet, these aren't the answers creationists will give you to your question. Instead, they'll try to explain away your critique with simplistic thinking and/or theology and/or pseudoscience, none of which are valid or even relevent.
Or still worse yet, they'll say "well we can't know the motivations of god...i mean...the designer!" or "who are we to question god...i mean...the designer!".
Thus, their thought process is completely irrational; a rational approach to the problem would clearly indicate that we absolutely *can* infer the motives of a creator by looking at his work, and that we absolutely *can* judge his competance in his work. It's very simple logic.
Remember kids: if you're going to design a machine to exist in an environment that includes ionizing radiation (sunlight), you make sure it's shielded against that radiation.
Human skin isn't shielded by any design, unless you try to claim that "skin pigment" is designed, purposeful radiation shielding - which it clearly isn't, because it barely works at all. If it is, then the designer is incompetant, and we already know that that's not a sensible claim.
You won't believe the ridiculous things some people will come up with to explain THAT away too. Most of it involves magic tricks on the part of god...i mean...the designer!

The vast majority of creationists do not believe their theory for scientific reasons. Do not expect a coherent logical answer.

If he made us impervious to all things, that would affect our free will and chances of evolving into greater people.
Imagine a world of no disease, no worry of getting hurt and no problems. What motivation would we have to learn and evolve?

fire cooks our food and keeps us warm -- yet it can burn us.
water quenches our thirst and maintains life -- yet we can drown.
what was G-d (if we're assuming He was the designer) thinking when He invented fire and water!?!
