Stacking containers is a good idea... you can get more storage space by raising the bed frame a few inches, too.

Eliminate clutter... that will help the room look larger... leave on the desk, only what you actually use.... if you have "knicknacks" and other decorative items, put them up on a shelf, mounted higher up on the wall.

If your desk does not have a "hutch", I would put one on it. You can either buy one to match your desk, or simply use some of those stacking shelves of various sizes and shapes found in every home supply store.

Consider mounting some shelving above the headboard of the bed.... high enough that you won't hit it of course, lol... but it would be out of the pathways... good place to store books, mount a reading light, more knicknacks, etc, lol....

Some folks like mirrors and some dont... but placing some mirrors, or mirror tiles, on the upper half of the wall(s), at least at 'eye height'... will make the room look bigger too.

Organize your closet... get rid of anything you don't use, or pack seasonal items away (like putting winter coats in a storage container under the bed)

Have fun!

YOU COULD STORE THINGS THAT YOU DON'T USE MUCH UNDER YOUR BED IN CONTAINERS TO MAKE ROOM FOR MORE IMPORTANT STUFF IN YOU CLOSET. IF IT WERE POSSIBLE, YOU COULD ELEVATE YOUR BED FOR EVEN MORE SPACE. DO YOU HAVE SHELVING IN YOUR CLOSET? I PUT SOME SHELVES OVER MY CLOTHES ROD AFTER I LOWERED IT. THE ROD IS HIGH ENOUGH TO CLEAR MY SHOES AND A FEW SHORT CONTAINERS ON THE FLOOR AND GIVES ME A LOT OF SPACE UP TOP. YOU JUST HAVE TO MAKE SURE TO LEAVE SPACE FOR YOUR HANGERS TO FIT UNDER THE LOWER SHELF. YOU COULD USE CONTAINERS ON THE SHELVES. YOU COULD INSTALL A CABINET OR SHELVING OVER YOUR DESK AND POSSIBLY USE A SHOE HANGER BEHIND THE DOOR IF YOU HAVE ROOM. PAINT YOUR ROOM A LIGHT COLOR TO MAKE IT FEEL A LITTLE BIGGER AND YOU MIGHT LIKE A COOL BORDER UP TOP. A TORCH LAMP WILL GIVE YOU MORE LIGHT AND WON'T TAKE UP AS MUCH ROOM AS A NIGHT STAND. IF YOU USE AN ALARM CLOCK YOU COULD PUT IT ON THE DESK. HOPE THIS HELPS A LITTLE...

Buy some of those plastic containers with lids so you can stack them neatly in a closet, you could use one at the end of your bed like we did in the military. That was used for our under clothes, brushes, combs, toothpaste,
shampoo/conditioner, shower soap etc. Saved a lot of space.
