Beats Me ? I get drunk, jump up and down in boat. Sometimes fall out and get back in. Still catch more fish than anybody else. Go figure.

Actually I think this is a very good question. I used to fish a while back. I kept quiet because everybody said I should be quiet to catch some fishes. But, I really don't think that fishes identify a noise from out of the water as a danger signal, I just don't know how much myth is it, or if it has real meaning.

This is a simple one. If you are fishing from shore or from a boat? You must try to keep quiet for sound travels very far under water. Fish can also see movement on or above the water. So any loud sound or movement scares the fish off.

I am never quiet when fishing, the fish see motion, and that is what scares them. I mean, you can't scream, but you can talk.

Many fish not only smell and see prey or preditars, but they can also tell from vibrations. if you speak or move your feet around in the water, the fish are able to feel and hear those vibrations, and will move further away from where you are fishing.

You have to be quiet or else you won't notice the fish dragging you out to the center of the pacific ocean.

You don't HAVE to be quiet, fishing just train your patience.. and talking isn't part of being patient.

It is tricking the fish. If you have a lure or worm that is appearing to be loud the fish will know you are trying to catch them up and eat them down!

It scares the fish, or so they say. Also it is part of the whole experience, atmosphere, that goes with fishing.
