Can dogs run backwards? I know it's not something that they would normally do, and I know that they can walk backwards, but if forced into a situation would they be able to run backwards? Let me know what you think.

I once had a dog who could drive a car backwards really well, even on the freeway. But run backwards? That's absurd!

I don't think dogs can run Backwards at all. I owned many dogs and they could back up to get out of an area, but thet would turn around and then walk, or run away.
It is difficult for humans to run backwards. I haven't seen anyone do it. We are smart enough to turn around and run!

no way .......dogs cannot run backwards they can walk backwards
some faster then others but no way i would call it running .
* perhaps a exceptional dog and a good trainer
i have never seen it are heard of it .
so.........anyone that says they can run backwards need to show some proof

I've never seen them actually like gallop backwards, but have you ever seen a human sprint backwards? It'd be like the same thing.
they might be able to do it for a short while, but their joints aren't made to run backwards.

Yes, dogs can run backwards and they do not have to be forced into the situation...check it out for yourself...this dog has been trained to run backwards as part of a dance routine with its owner.

I do believe a dog could be trained to run back wards. I have never seen them run backwards. BUT i have seen a dog back up fast when he saw a skunk.

Dogs can move slowly backwards. Their leg joint do not allow for them to run backwards.

I've never seen a dog run backwards but im pretty sure they can't. Im just imagining it in my head and it doesnt look right.

One of mine will heel backwards, fast. I am sure technically it is not a run, she kind of bounces backwards

not really, they will jump back , but not run . when in a tight spot it will scurry backward clumsily. even in the best of shows I've never seen one run backward..
