6.9s ('87?-'91?) were lower horsepower/ torque but were great Diesels that used injection pumps to power the engine (any Diesel mechanic can work on)

7.3 non IDI (indirect injection) ('92?-'94.5) had a little more power but was based off the 6.9 with the injector pump..toward 92-93 they had aftermarket kits and Ford finally added a turbo for more power but still fairly easy to work on.

7.3 DI ('94.5-'03.25)has been a pretty good motor if you find a truck with the bugs worked out of it, but uses oil to fire the injectors and require a scan tool to really fix..More power but bill is more for upkeep and maintainace.

6.0 32v DI ('03.25-'07) has more power but has been a poison thorn for Ford with quality issues espcially with EGRs and runability... Get the bugs worked outta one, it' a good motor though

supposedly a 6.4 going back to a IDI injector pump is planned for the 08 model year

the new diesel makes more power with less displacement. This is mainly attributed to the higher boost pressure from the turbo. The 7.3 has been around a while and is a solid power plant. The new motor should have all the bugs worked out by now. Ford has been throwing down a 100,000 mile warranty on the motor so it must be decent. Almost bought one but ended up with a new Duramax.

The 7.3 is a lot better engine and more dependable. It's turbo charged, so you get more power, more torque, and better all around performance. The 7.3 is know as the best pulling engines for pick-ups on the road.

Do you know that the price of gas will reach 5$/gallon soon?
Why someone need more than 150 PH out of a 2000 cc engine? Are you trying to pull trees off the ground, like in that stupid commercial?
Wish you look with 7.3!

depends. is the 7.3 turboed? because when it first came out it wasn't. the 6.9 is a better motor non-turboed. and what's w/ all these people talking about gas?? these engines don't run on GAS. anyway, if you're talking about a 7.3 powerstroke(turboed) then go for it. much more power.
