I found that Ivy Dry works the best, it costs a bit, but it really worked for me and I suffer horrible when i get exposed to any of those.
If it does not clear up, have them go back to the Dr.'s and get the prescription for Prednisone, that always works. And take Benadryl to help relieve the itching!!!

Got your drug store or pharmacy at your local department store, and see if they have this stuff called Tecnu, by Oak & Ivy Brand. Usually is a gel, that soothes quite well, and includes a small bottle of this other stuff you rub before you get in the shower and wash off. I never used on sumac, but it worked good with poison ivy. And the gel is clear, which is a lot better than walking around with pink spots all over you from calamine lotion.

Go to Wal-mart get a few gallon jugs of Apple Cider Vinegar $3.00 a jug, fill the tub with water put in a whole jug and soak for about an hour if they can.Pat dry don't rub, get a wash cloth and wash the whole body with pure vinegar on the wash cloth no water, air dry the smell will fade when it dries. Vinegar is healthy for the skin it won't harm any part of the body, if the skin is broke it will burn for a second. It will work and they will have very soft skin its the best skin moisturizer you can use it too. GOOD LUCK.

Use one (1) bar of soap to thoroughly wash any areas that may have come into contact with poison ivy, oak or sumac. Use warm water and rub soap bar directly on skin for maximum exfoliation effect; do not lather in hands. Wash affected area for at least 30 seconds. Thoroughly rinse off all soap and do not allow unexposed areas to be contaminated while rinsing. One soap bar will be sufficient for a total body wash. Discard bar after single use. If a second application is needed, use a new bar. Do not allow anyone to come into contact with used bar; dispose of immediately. Severe cases may take repeated washings.

Benadryl capsules. Their having an allergic response so the itching and pain are going to be horrible. You also need a drying agent for the sores as well. I think my grandma used to use this homeade soap made with lye. That stuff worked well. But, I think you can find treatments with Tea tree oil (or also known as Melaleuca) from the health food store. (Not the pure essential oil, it will irritate.)
Hope this helps!

Same as poison ivy or oak, Caladryl lotion, sitting in a warm tub, or my aunts used to make a paste of flour and water to keep it covered with. If it is getting worse then they may be more allergic than average and need to go back to the doctor, especially if it starts to ooze or weep. I am immune to all of them, but allergic to almost everything else, so reactions do vary from person to person.

My son and daughter just got over it...what I read in a magazine was to use dish soap like dawn or palmolive. Just let it dry on the skin. It worked for them plus was inexpensive!!!

In the old days my mom used to put us in a bath of oatmeal. Also calamine lotion and Benadrille help with the itching.
