From the Bible I think the Prophet Onan spilled his seed on the ground, and from then people have been thinking that was the act of self pleasuring. Since Onan was in the Old Testament I believe that incident can be found in the Quran as well.
That said, self-pleasuring is believe to be Haram because the act itself wastes the seeds that God has given you to pro-create.
In one of the Monty Python series there even a song about it. The chorus goes:
Every sperm is sacred,
Every sperm is great,
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.
Its funny when we see this, but that is the truth of the matter why followers of the old testament should not self pleasure or have birth control.

according to islam masturbating is haram because u waisted your sperm, actualy sperm is u a human "seed" and to fertelize it in a woman uterus and born to be a human ,so the bloodline is contineus and not just throw away with your hand

ok here it is...read it in a book.....it's not a wise thing to do and not because of "sin" ..religion..etc......thoughts have a lot of power...they say to think and to "visualize"..what it is you want to make it happen...when you masturbate ...especially ! when you are younger you usually visualize...eventually you'll attract sexual situations in your life....for many young people much too soon! i'm not saying not to...just be aware that can happen...i'm a metaphysics student ....
