I'm 12 years old. My mother's sister and mother both died from Lupus. My mother and some people I know noticed my cheeks and nose have been turning red for no reason(I am black). My mom said this a sign of Lupas. Does anybody know if this is a syptom and any other evidence proving that I may have this skin disease. Any advice would be appreciated!

In many cases, people with lupus will have a redness across the cheeks and nose like a mask, sometimes called a butterfly. I believe it is rare for a child to develop serious effects of lupus. However, ask your mom to take you to a doctor who can address your concerns. Don't be scared; many people with lupus who take care of themselves and listen to their doctors can live a long, happy life. Take care!!

Well, first I'm sorry about the passing of your aunt and mother, and I am 14 and my friend Isla had one of the same symptoms for that, (and se is also african-american), and she went to the doctor for that, and they were able to help her at an early age, so would recommend you go to a doctor, but don't stress too much over this.

Go to a doctor. I dont think you are going to have much peace until you hear it from a professional. That is also the safest way. It could be nothing, I have rosasia which makes my face red.
