I'm the only one around here that does anything. My 19 year step son was supposed to take the trash out, but since he only slept until 4pm, it seems he has gotten tired and gone off to bed. Lazy piece of sh* t.

Oooh, i've got an idea. Since you all got pretty good answers. How about I take most of the garbage out and tomorrow morning I put the bag of dirty diapers in his room and turn off the AC vent. LOL

Take it out. it's summer and you will regret having full cans of rotting trash. The smell will kill you. I feel for you. Talk to your step son in a moment of calmness, no name calling, and tell him how you feel. It obviously hurts you and frustrates you that you do everything around the house, and that you get no appreciation or most of all help. Demand some help. It's hard to punish a 19 year old, but he does still live at home. Good luck to you. I am a mom, and a step mom, I understand!!!

To me, it sounds like trash forgotten to be taken out is the least of your problems. To speak of your step son in such a manner shows lack of respect for him, your husband and yourself. Even if he is a 19 year old with problems. If you are the only one around there that does anything, it is time for a family meeting (make an actual chart and divey up the chores)! If nobody will listen, I would suggest seeing a therapist for yourself and deciding what are the next steps in life you should take to find the happiness you deserve. Good Luck.

Put the trash bag on his bed with a nice little note that says "didn't want you to forget to take it out again". Feel free to add "Your 19, either get a job or be taken out with the trash next time"!

yeah...okay well, I understand.. same problem here.

However, seeing as how it has been so hot lately, you won't be doing anyone a favor by leaving it until next week.

Go into your stepson's room, pour a glass of water on him, and then when he suddenly wakes up tell him,

"You know, you looked kind of hot and sweaty laying there, I thought that might cool you off...and now, seeing as how you're awake why don't you get your a** up and take out that garbage you forgot about earlier or you can sleep with it next to you...your choice...either way"
Then, if he complains, tell him that if you want his opinion you'll give it to him.

PS- the diaper idea is priceless...DO IT!!

Stick him with the garbage bill. Fine him for the amount you have to pay for trash removal. Charge him rent. If he takes out the trash, deduct his good service from the cost of the rent.

Don't get abusive. Get firm.

Well, I would take out the trash, but then I would strip his room down to a bed, a dresser, and only school things.

You should take out the trash, and then tell your step son to move out and get a job.

I'd take the trash out, but then I'd start packing and get the HELL out of there. Reminds me one time my sister's boyfriend didn't show up for Christmas and when asked why my sis said, "I guess he's just too tired from not working all the time". She got rid of him after that...

Sit him down and tell him to take out the trash every week or hand him the bill the next time he forgets, That wont happen again trust me.

Take it out yourself but let everyone know you are not happy about it. I know, most kids are lazy farts who will only do something when we're yelling loudly about it! Good luck with that trash. Think how much better you'll feel when it's done.
