I think it's 2 years, but like the other post said, all US military enlistments are an 8 year obligation. So if you did 2 years in the guard, reserve, or active duty, and decided to "get out" after your term was done, you still have 6 years in which the military could potentially call you back up if your time isn't out yet. And if they do that, you have to report, or else you could go to jail for breach of contract (not to mention have bad credit ratings that will haunt you for the rest of your life, and be unable to sign up for any government programs/scholarships/grants).
And the military doesn't care if you're a brand new joe/jane who's never been in the military before. As long as you score well on the test they give you before you can sign up, they'll train you on anything, provided that the Army needs those types of soldiers, and that you're qualified for it (meaning high test score, and for some jobs, civilian training, such as being an army surgeon. Being a medic though, doesn't require anything special beforehand, and they train you on everything you need).

All initial enlistments in the US military are for a period of eight years. The first term is for active duty or active reserve duty while the remainder is for what is called the Individual Ready Reserve, which is inactive duty.
The first term of active duty can be as short as two years for some MOS's (military jobs) but the normal period is three years. There are some jobs, such as linguist, that require a longer initial enlistment due to the length of training.

I'm pretty sure it's 2 years but you'll still be elligible to be recalled after you get out if your job specialty gets low.
