I always hear people telling others (and to me at times) "If you love something, set it free. If it comes back, it is yours. If it doesn't, it never was." Maybe I am looking at it wrong but I don't find it comforting at all! Maybe someone can provide insight that I'm overlooking.

To set something (or someone) free is to respect their desires and choices as you would want your own to be respected. If they come back, it means they *choose* to be with you; if not, you've done the right thing anyway by letting them choose. Either way, you learn the truth.

It really means that you truly love something enough to let it make it's own desition (sp?). If it's truly happy or not not being free or if it was already happy it will say. Here's an example:
You love someone and never let them get too close to other people. You let them go and they'll be happier at the love, care and trust you show them. So, either they stay with you or they leave you for someone else.
It's like they make their own desition and your happy as long as they are. :D I blabber a lot, don't I?

It's amazing how people will attempt to rationalize when they have been dumped....

Guess what... get on with life...

The biggest myth out there is that you need someone in life to make you whole.

Truth is, you can't be comfortable with someone in your life until you are comfortable with you

Just food for thought

It means true Love will come back if it is meant to be -- if you hang on to someone so tight you strangle them, and never let them out of your sight or stranglehold, you will never know if it is love AND they will end up hating you.

You shouldn't try to hold on to someone that dosen't love you... So set them free. "Tell Him or her"(don't let the door bang you in the butt.)

By setting it(them) free they are able to CHOOSE to love you. Rather than become DEPENDANT on you.

It's not comforting, I think that it is ment to see if the object of your love really does love you...I would be nervous as hell, too!!!!
