It's like any sport right now. All sports has a credibility problem. The real crime is that the average person pays a lot of money to watch these cheaters play. I don't think I'll ever watch the "Tour" again. It had been an annual event in our household to enjoy the three week event. Truly one of the greatest sporting events in the world. Now I feel like a fool for wasting my time thinking everything was on the up and up! No more!!!

Take a close look at all of the recreational cyclist out on the road and on the trails. Few, if any, of them have a competitive mind set of any kind. I don't feel that the drug scandals are even a blip on the average cyclist radar screen. In fact, in the Boston area where I live, it seems as though cycling is growing much bigger at all age levels. At the recreational end, it is indeed a very credible sport.

cycling is not only credible, it is arguably the greatest sport. the main reason you hear so much about cycling is that:

1) the official orgs that run the sport are going after drug use w/ a passion, unlike w/ baseball & football where the leagues make every effort to hide the drug use.

2) it is a sport that relies so heavily on being in perfect shape, which pushes the bounds of medical guidance vs cheating. again unlike other american favorites like football (350 pound linemen) and baseball (uhh, can u say john kruk)

3) its popular enough that it matters, other sports where drug use is prevalent like weightlifting & track & field don't get the coverage that the tour de france does

Drugs are a part of modern life.
I did a report in school about 15 years ago where I researched drugs in the tour, and came to belive all of them used drugs.
What is a drug and what is not?
Caffine? Gatorade? Pot?
Anyway, lots of sports have ben exposed in this decade. I guess sports stars were somewhat considered "good roll models" as aposed to entertainers b4 all the steroid stuff.
Also we've won a lot of tours now, I bet the other guys are getting sore.

Only if you are doping. If you still like riding your bike, it's a credible sport.

The value of a sport is never judged or determined by the abuse of humans any more than marriage is not evaluated by RAPE and forced sexual slavery.

yes - for every 15 riders (or 58!) who are discovered to have tried to cheat, there must be countless ones who are honest enough to never go to those extremes to win. We have to keep taking it seriously for their benefit.
