Cussing (foul language) are merely words said to offend the reciever. They are what people use when they've run out of intellegence to deal w/ a stiuation. When they run out of foul language, they resort to violence.
There seems to be very little intellegence around these days.

Why is it that Americans persist in saying "cuss"?! It's "curse", people. Cuss doesn't mean anything -- you've made it up.

But anyway, there are no forbidden thoughts. Thoughts are an individual thing. It's only when it comes to communication between people that rules exist -- etiquette. These rules govern social interaction and seek to ensure that offense isn't caused during communication.

So "cuss" as much as you want, just don't express it aloud unless you're sure the person you're communicating with will appreciate such words.

ah, nope. your explanation is, at best, an attempt to cover a fire with a nylon scarf... To get an idea across, we would use WORDS, a string or pattern of sounds put together to indicate a given and understood idea,. In "other words" we'd just USE the regularly accepted words. Cuss words are used to shock, obtain a reaction, or to insult. ... These days, (as the media has dulled the publics' reactions), most people use cuss words to add "emphasis" or shock value to what they have said. There are no instances of a person who's ability to communicate is based solely upon the use of "cuss words". It IS an interesting idea though.

Uuuuugh.

*sigh*!

Why do you people have to post totally incoherent questions? Anyway, I swear (cuss) because I want to. I do it when it best expresses what I am trying to say, which happens to be often. I don't do it to piss off anyone. I don't do it for any particular reason other than no other words seem to get my point across as well as certain "cuss" words. I am not offended when people cuss. I don't do it in inappropriate situations. But I certainly do it all the time when appropriate and I expect others around me to tell me if it bugs them.

It's just the way I talk. I am comfortable talking that way. I am also comfortable when people around me talk that way. I don't see what the big deal is with cussing.

it's lazy. try increasing your vocabulary and putting some thought into what you are trying to say. cuss words are so vague and can be interpeted so many ways. how can you get your thoughts across when you leave them open to interpetation by the other person. using cuss words only says you are, "angry", "stupid" or "lazy". yeah use words, real words not over used crap that just flys out of your mouth with no real thought. how do you like those words?

Okay I have examined it a lot. I find that I feel like what we are calling cussing is just slang English. We invent words to get our points across when there is not one.
The only forbidden words God has told us to not use are blasphemy against Him and the word fool against anyone.
The rest is just talking dirty. and if it offends a lot of people then I try to keep it to a minimum. but as you have said there are times when only a cuss word can express and get the attention i want, so I use them sparingly and the shock value is 100% attention to me immediately.

No, words are not merely sounds. They convey meanings and attitude of the speaker. Their use can show disrespect. This is the etiquette section right? Etiquette is about giving respect. While what you find offensive may differ from what I find offensive, there are plenty of words in our language to communicate with without being disrespectful of those we are speaking to.

Many words that are considered "cuss" words are offensive and therefore ugly. Some are even violent in nature. There is ENOUGH ugliness and violence in the world without adding it into our language.

We're not saying it is forbidden, we are saying it is offensive. Let's face it, some "cuss" words have pretty nasty meanings. Or, if you are a Christian, some are offensive in that they blaspheme God. It's all in how you look at it.
