How do women in Italy compare to women in the US? Are they shy, easy to talk to? How are thier attitudes different? What do they think of American guys? I am planning on going to school in Rome so I want to have a heads up as to what I can expect when I get there. Also, what is it like for an American living in Italy (Rome)?

All comparisons are odious, someone famous once said. The culture of Italy makes Italian women more concerned about family, and that means they want the approval of their family on any men they are potentially interested in. It's really a good idea--more opinions make for a more informed decision. I wish I'd listened more to my Italian brothers about who I dated. They saw things I didn't see.
And, yes, if you are not good to Italian women, their entire family will indeed come after you about it. Familia is a GOOD thing. As far as saying they don't age well, I have two words for you: Sophia Loren. They have become much more career minded over the years, however. If you want kids, you will not have much luck with Italian women. American girls are the ones who want to make babies, as well as having a career.

i don't know exactly how American are but most things I've eared here are stupidity !! in particular at Rome women are great, shave hairy under the pits of arms(!!!!!)..and the comment of richman was based on an film? or what? maybe in Italy he just visited the neuropsychiatric ward in Rome...
I've seen some American women and are generally most fat, worst dressed, bad cookers...
than, go to Rome and try to be yourself, be sweet and nice... if they know that you are American and have some difficult will help you... have a nice trip

Itally is very expensive, I travel there with work every two weeks, the girls are fantastic, very pretty and normally thiner than american girls, they dont ask for alot but are traditional as far as wanting you to meet thier families if you want a relationship
they like american men as we are normally more ambitious than the men they normally meet

in addition to the other comments above about Italian women, which are generally true, it is also true that they tend to peak at about 16 years old. after that, it's generally a long, slow, decline, and the final product can be quite dismal: i.e., even the most gorgeous ones, like say the Sicilian chick in the original Godfather films ("Appolonia"), had a moustache, thick glasses, dried-out hair, and a rear end the size of a golf cart by the time she was 25.

No idea. But, in my high school I knew a few girls who came from italian families and they're pretty easy to talk to (they were born here though).

I was in Italy twice. Even the beautiful women don't shave their pits.
