i guess it is just a double standard... ****** means stupid black person...if i remember right. so it may be the same as calling your best friend assh0le. "hey ____ you little assh0le, how's it going?" i knew a white person and a black person who were great friends and they would call each other racist names to joke around with each other. so what ever.

Its not a double standard and no white friend should joke around and call anyone that N word. Think of it this way, women have there own types of talk they do when they are together. Men as well most guys talk a certain way with each other a lot of wife's have never heard the way some guys talk on a hunting trip or at the bar watch the game. So when a group of us blacks get together we use the N word around each other just like any other group will talk just in there group. So no its not a double standard.

The word is very offense I have to say the music,comedians,t.v show has made this word common to be use,It was the white men you use this word to describe black people that they hated that were slave. No one person should use this word but they do and what can anyone do about it .When you here this word use by a white person it's rarely in the way that you might have heard a black person use it. It's normally that way the white men use it towards the slave my ancestors .believe me and I know this is wrong but if you are not black i wouldn't even let it cross your lips .You never know how the person you are around may take it. Me myself I don't like it no matter how it's been use

Not being black myself, I'm not completely sure, but I have similar experience with a similar word for ethnic people.
Basically, if my experience is anything to go by, a minority's use of an offensive word is okay because they've earned the right to use it; they're reclaiming it and normalising it as a way of dealing with that discrimination.
But when a member of a majority group uses it, it is highly offensive and merely perpetuates the discrimination.
Kind of like how you can make fun of your own family (because of course you actually love them, because it's not like you have a choice) and it's fine, but if anyone else makes fun of your family you'd get angry.
Make sense? Basically, if it's not yours, don't use it. Hope that helps.

WELL...I AM BLACK AND I'VE NEVER BEEN CALLED A "N****" BY ANYONE OUTSIDE OF MY RACE, SO UNFORTUNATELY IT'S BECOME A "COMMON" HOUSEHOLD NAME IN THE BLACK COMMUNITY, WHICH OF COURSE, IS NOT A GOOD THING. MANY PEOPLE DO GET OFFENDED WHEN CALLED THAT BY SOMEONE OTHER THAN AFRICAN AMERICANS, ESPECIALLY CAUCASIANS. THE REASON STEMS FROM THE "RACE CARD/HISTORY OF SLAVERY" AND WHAT IS HAS STOOD FOR AND REPRESENTED FOR SO MANY CENTURIES, WHICH REALLY IS NOT AN EXCUSE FOR USE OF THE WORD CONSIDERING THAT THE DEFINITION NEVER ANNOUNCES THAT ONLY A PARTICULAR RACE IS A N****"

Because when a fellow black person says it, they understand that it is meant in a friendly way. When non-black folks say it, there is no way of knowing if they mean it in a racist way or not. Same with the word "******" -- gay guys use it all of the time. But if a straight person calls someone a ******, chances are that they mean it in the worst possible way.

they take control of the situation. Taking control is a security for them. But when others say it, it is an absolute insult. For black people to refer to themselves as niga is still is negative in my own opinion. It is the same as teenage girls referring to others as"sluts" and "bitches". It is all self deprecation.

It is a term of endearment for african americans, and an insult for anyone else, especially white people who have used it negatively since slavery. It's a balck thing, you would not understand, but please don't call Big Bubba a *****, he might check your chin and hit you with a shank.

Its an extremely deragatory word I find it to be the most despicable word in the Engish dictionary. And I am white as snow!!! Well, almost!!!
