Hi!
It probably is an age thing... Puberty is just wonderful, isn't it?
First of all, your hormones are on a rampage which makes you very sensitive and insecure. Let me guess... no one understands you or how you feel, no one really cares enough to try and the whole world is against you, right?
Also, this transition from child to teen is hard. Your parents still treat you like a child, but you are ready to have more trust and responsibility. Plus, things at school are tough at this age.
To feel better, you should get lots of rest, eat right and take some vitimins. Also, get involved at school when you start... cheerleading, student council, school newspaper, sports... whatever.
But know, depression is a serious illness. If you feel like you cannot overcome it or handle it any longer, you need to see a doctor.
Also, if the fatigue keeps up, you need to see a doctor. You might have Mononucleosis (Mono- the kissing disease). It is common around your age group... and you don't have to kiss someone to get it. Overwhelming fatigue is usually the main (common) symptom and you will feel the need to sleep all the time. Also, Mono is easy to catch and easy to spread. So if your friend is constantly tired too, you really-really need to see a doctor.
Take care of yourself and cheer up... eight years to go and you will be an adult.
Also, check out the links I provided on Mononucleosis.
Best Wishes... T.

People get depressed at all ages for a huge number of reasons, being tired is a symptom of depression and will stop when you address the problem. TRUST ME, THE REASONS WHY YOU ARE DEPRESSED CAN BE IDENTIFIED, AND THEY CAN ALSO BE RESOLVED.
Talk to a doctor. No matter how intelligent you are, you can always learn something from someone else. As a teenager your impulse is to ask the advice of everyone BUT the people who can actually help you, fight this nonsense and look for a professional who will help you, doctor, psychiatrist, counselor...don't give up until you find help, it may not come from the first try.
Explanation: 14 is one of the most difficult years of any person's life. You are being confronted with puberty and the social darwinism of high-school at the same time, often with no real tutelage in how to handle it. Obviously, if drugs, sex, and an over-dependence on socializing in general are involved, the problem of depression can be magnified exponentially.
Good luck. Remember that being depressed can be overcome by getting help and executing a plan of attack on the problem. It isn't any different than any other project you investigate, plan, and implement a solution to.

Hi there.
Get some help. Talk to your Mom, your Dad; share your feelings with a friend. If you can't do that talk to your doctor.
A lot of people might tell you there is nothing to worry about. It is just your age. It may not be. Has something happened recently? Has there been an upsetting event? I am wondering why both your friend and you are feeling this way.
Do you have access to a Crisis Hot line or Teen Hot line? They can be helpful in the meantime.
Right now I think it is important that you share your feelings with an adult. Don't let this go on too long. You don't want it to develop into something far worse.

sorry to hear that you are feeling sad. Usually school does that to a person. Sometimes feeling depressed at your age, is because you are trying to fit in and deal with bullies or other rude people at your school. Once you become independent and more confident in yourself and your skills that you learn in high school then things should be a bit more brighter. I know it's hard to deal with life at such a young age, but I have been through all that too. Sometimes you just need to talk about it, maybe you and your friend can share what you feel or do something constructive like do art, write , or play music. Try to do things that distract you and things that build you up. Life is tiring in general. That is one thing that never goes away though. Hope you have better spirits later on!

You don't say if you are boys or girls and that can make a difference. It's not normal to always be tired at your age. It sounds like you and your friend are not getting enough exercise because the more you sit around the less energy you have and the greater the build up or lack of natural chemicals in your blood stream that affect your mental state.
Why don't you and your friend go on bike rides or join a sports team or play tennis together or something like that? Get out of the house and get some exercise and some sun light and fresh air.
Another cause of depression at your age has to do with coming out of a child like mentality. You watch the news on TV and you hear about all of the bad things that happen to people and you are no longer just a little kid who trusts that your mother and father can make every thing alright in your life.
That's when you need to start a saving relationship with God through Christ Jesus. Do you go to church? Have you asked Jesus to come into your heart? When a person knows that they have supernatural help and a real purpose for living it's hard to stay depressed and when you do feel down you can always tell it to your Heavenly Father!
Philippians 4:6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and petition, along with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, shall guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. 8 Finally, brothers, as many things as are true, as many as are honorable, as many as are just, as many as are pure, as many as are lovely--if there is any virtue and if there is any praise--meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, practice these things; and the God of peace shall be with you.
Psalms 34:7 The angel of the LORD encamps around those who fear him, and delivers them. 8 Oh, taste and see that the LORD is good! Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him! 9 Oh, fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him have no lack! 10 The young lions suffer want and hunger; but those who seek the LORD lack no good thing.

I've been through the same thing and I'm only 16. It was usually the people I was around. I used to get tired a lot, too. Somehow I got over it. Surround yourself with people you know will cheer you up or just spend sometime alone, read a book or watch your favorite movie. Those are some of the things that worked for me. Good luck.

It could be because of a lot of personal tension you might be taking. Also, you both just became teenagers, so the pressure has appeared. The pressure to look cool, be with the coolest people in the school, college and have great friends. Maybe that is tiring you out. Are there any family troubles also bothering you? maybe having a group of friends where you can discuss stuff might help.

Being that the both of you are not in my office having a one on one psychiatric evaluation, answering your question is very complex, because of the different types of depression you could or may not have.
If you answer yes to atlest two of the following you are suffering from "Dysthymia, or another form of depression an or personality disorder.
!) Poor appetite or overeating
2) Insomnia or hypersomnia
3) low energy or fatique
4) Low self-esteem
5) Poor concentration or difficulty making decisions
6) Feelings of hopelessness
My first question to you if you were my patients, is why do you think you need to see a psychiatrist?.
I am a psychiatrist who does not like to put labels on children/young adults.
There is a ROOT CAUSE FOR ALL PSYCHIATRIC PROBLEMS. THE KEY IS FOR A PROFESSIONAL DOCTOR WHO REALLY CARES ABOUT YOU AS A PERSON AND YOUR PROBLEMS. ONE WHO WILL NOT JUST GIVE YOU 10 MINUTES OF THIER TIME AND PUT YOU ON ANTI-DEPRESSION DRUGS TO MASK THE ROOT CAUSE. THE DRUG WILL ONLY MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD, BUT THE ROOT CAUSE OF THE DEPRESSION WILL STILL BE THERE.
THIS IS WAY IT IS VERY IMPORTANT THAT YOU CAN CONFIDE IN SOME ONE THAT YOU TRUST TO WORK WITH YOU TO FIND THE ROOT CAUSE.
NOW IF YOUR PARENTS ARE THE CAUSE THEN YOU HAVE A SERIOUS PROBLEM AN I WOULD SUGGEST THAT YOU TALK WITH YOUR SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST FIRST.
I DON'T SEE HOW YOU CAN GET PROFESSIONAL HELP OVER THE INTERNET.
IF YOU KNOW 100%, THAT YOUR PARENTS ARE NOT THE CAUSE YOU REALLY NEED TO TALK TO THEM RIGHT AWAY.
USUALLY BOTH PARENTS HAVE TO WORK TO SUPPORT THE FAMILY AND THEY ARE NOT AWARE OF BEHAVIOR OR PERSONALITY CHANGES IN THEIR CHILDREN.
NOT KNOWING THE BOTH OF YOU ON A PERSONAL LEVEL I GET THE FEELING THAT YOU BOTH REALLY KNOW AN ARE AFRAID TO DEAL WITH THE PROBLEM OR PROBLEMS.
REMEMBER THAT YOU ARE BOTH MINORS AND WOULD REQUIRE THE CONSENT OF YOUR PARENTS, TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST.
IF YOU ARE NOT COMFORTABLE TALKING WITH YOUR PARENTS, PLEASE TALK WITH YOUR SCHOOL PSYCHOLOGIST, AS HE/SHE CAN OBTAIN A COURT ORDER FOR YOU TO SEE A PSYCHIATRIST WITHOUT THE CONSENT OF YOUR PARENTS IF THE PROBLEMS ARE OF A NATURE THAT REQUIRES A COURT ORDER.
GOD BLESS AND PLEASE SEEK HELP.
AS TO YOUR QUESTION, NO I WAS A HAPPY CHILD WITH NO KNOWN DEPRESSION.
