I was at a store today with a friend and she said "Look, a cross with Jesus on it" (the word Jesus) and I said "Well, of course Jesus is on it, what else would be on the cross?" ....

There could be a lot of things on it. Jesus wasn't the only being to be crucified. There is no evidence that he was crucified anyway. In fact, there is no evidence that he existed at all.

I'll admit it wasn't very nice to say. Was it wrong? Sounds more to me like your two contexts were just different...she sounds like she was noticing the art aspect of the cross, while you were looking at the fact-factor of the cross as art.
example: her: "Aw, look, a puppy"
you: "Of course it's a puppy...look how small it is."
different contexts...but like I said, the way you responded wasn't very nice.

I believe my friend that is sarcasm, and we all have our moments. If it's on your heart and your asking the question of whether it is wrong or not, it probably is. Anything you have to question you should pray about and seek guidance. Good luck!
