matching a color on a boat?

it's not that easy. there do exists some color charts - Pantone, RAL, etc that could get you close, but most gelcoat is custom colormatched specifically for a boat manufacturer. if this is an existing boat, likely the color has changed due to weathering. if you're trying to make a patch it is probably going to be easier to repair the entire boat than to make a patch. you can contact your boat manufacturer to find out which company supplied the gelcoat to make your boat and order the same material to do your resurface or patch if you chose.
Or, if it isn't a repair and you're wanting to match your boat to the paint of your truck or whatever, you can get the Lab numbers from the gelcoat suppliers and those can be used to match. Lab numbers are kind of like the coordinates to where your color resides in "color space".
Hope this helps!
