I'm not a christian, but I always keep my own consul, sometimes I hope to hear god, but it's really just my logical self answering, and let me tell you, I know what's what usually. I wish god would answer me once in a while though, It's getting really bad to be me.

ChooserealityPLEASE,
Okay, no scrpiture ( though Psalm 19:1-6 is burning in my heart).
He lets us know. Sometimes I think that I can hear Him, but I myself distrust any vioce heard, or think that I hear, unless it really makes sense to me.
He answers when the issue comes around, that is; it either gets solved or the solution becomes clear to me.
Sometimes I get an answer to my prayers blatantly. Other times I know that He will work His will.
Sometimes it's just a feeling that I get.
Some will call all of that arbitrary. I don't mind. It's one of those, " You had to be there " things.
He brings me peace. And sometimes I find myself resisting that. That is feeling based too, you know.
But one of the most present ways He speaks to me is when I can do something that I haven't been able to do before. " Whom He calls He enables" is the saying. Also, to understand scripture is one of the most amazing gifts. It separates us from those who don't have His Spirit. They don't know what value to put on which verse, and have trouble understanding the concept and principle under scrutiny.
What you might be doing in asking this question is trying to find proof of God. I hope you find it. But know a few of these things first:
1) He doesn't want to be known by some people.
2) If you want to know Him it means that you are being pulled to Him ( a very important concept to understand).
3) You can't understand any of this unless His Spirit brings that understanding capacity.
4) He is smarter than anyone. That is; He can confound or make wise out of whoever He wishes.

God speaks to me in many different ways.
1) Through dreams...I'd say 90-some-odd % of my dreams come true (prophets in the Old Testament often received their revelations from dreams).
2) praying...praying is not only about talking, but also about listening (like when you're in a relationship). No, I don't hear His voice vocally. Say I ask a question. Soon, the answer comes to me. Is it God or just me? Well, I didn't know the answer, and often times, if I obey that answer, I'll find that it was His telling me to do it.
3) Sometimes God will speak through others...God called me to ministry through 3 people...the first 2, I blew off. But for some reason, the third one hit me differently.
4)Sometimes through His works...
-Say I'm looking for something, and can't find it. I'll ask, "Lord, would you please help me find...", and suddenly, I'll either find it, or walk into the room where it is.
-There are things many consider "acts of God", but can't be explained...some are obvious as to what God's saying.
5) While reading scriptures, I'll pray first for understanding. Or if I come across some scriptures that I don't understand, I'll pray for help in understanding it, and suddenly, I'll see.
6) Sometimes, when He calls, you can't explain it, but you also can't deny it. And maybe you'll just do it without thinking (I'm not talking about instincts).
I'm sure there are more, also, but these are the ones off the top of my head. Hope I helped some.

Thru convictions. I just *know* something is right or wrong or what is about to happen. And also thru dreams. It's a different feeling than just knowing something because you know right from wrong or because of the natural ability we all have to pretty much predict what is going to happen in our lives. It's the kind of feeling that's so strong that no one on this earth could talk me into doing something God has *told* me not to. And the dreams...i can always distinguish which ones are messages and which ones are just plain old jumbled up dreams just by the feeling i get from them that is totally indescribable. I feel like i have a close personal relationship with God, and that the communication highway is always open and information is always going back and forth. It's a wonderful feeling that nothing else in this world compares to.

You are asking a question that only you and God can answer. No one else can answer your question because the answers you are looking for only apply to you. And you won't find what you are looking for in the Bible either because it only applies to you. It isn't a form of communication as such. It is prayer and God does things for you. This is what I want you to do: pray to the Lord and ask Him seriously for guidance. Pray everyday and it does not matter when or where or what it is about or how long and let God show you what He will do for you. I think you will be surprised. Besides you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

He speaks to me in different ways depending on my frame of mind. Most of my answers are like pop ups. I will be thinking and then suddenly an answer to a question or a solution just comes to mind. At first i thought it was me just figuring things out then i realized that it couldn't have been just me coz at the time i was thinking about something different. Sometimes when i a reading the bible a verse flashes out more than others or my mind gets a sudden urge to re-read a particular verse ( the answer only becomes clear when i then meditate on the verse ) Once i had a verse in my dream, i woke up and grabed the bible to search for the verse and it was just one word in the entire verse that made sense. In most cases God uses my common sense to communicate with me

God speaks to his children in so many different ways.
1. Bible
2. Still small voice
3. Vision
4. Dream
5. Through others
6. Prompting of the spirit
7. Signs and wonders
8. Many other ways
If you want to hear God speak to you, you have to recoignize God's voice. God says my sheep knows my voice. The way to know God's voice is to spent time reading his word and praying and your spiritual eyes and ears will be open. You will start to hear and see things you never thought were possible through the holy spirit.
Warning, test all spirits because satan tries to copy God also and might inspire dreams, visions, thoughts, etc. that are not of God. The more intimate you are with God the easier it will be to distinguish the things that are of God, the flesh, and evil spirit. Pray for discernment.

God can speak to you in a variety of ways. I mean this literally.
But when he speaks to you, if you are earnestly seeking him, he will reveal his word to you by either pointing out a Bible scripture you should read like reading the book of Romans for example, or by seeing a sign on a car or hearing the words to a certain song on the radio etc. In other words, if you are out, and say you are feeling down, and you are depressed, God may speak to you by a car passing by with a tag on the front that says "Expect a Miracle", or you may find yourself suddenly with a vision in your mind of a certain bible passage, and you keep visioning it or hearing it inside of you until you finally read it, and when you do, you will read something of meaning to you. etc.
Once I had been going through turmoil when I prayed to God to have a certain song play on the radio within 30 minutes. If it played within the 30 minutes I knew everything would be alright, otherwise it would not be. I was in a library when I prayed this. I left, got in my car, started up the road, and within a minute, that song (which I hadn't heard in months) mysteriously played on the radio. I was both shocked and inspired, and knew then that EVERYTHING'S GONNA BE ALRIGHT , which by the way, are words in the song, and I think may be the title to the song.
Everything turned out alright, and now I sit here a FREE MAN.

Being Native American, I look around me and see what's going on. Certain things have certain meaning and it's actually easy to interpret if you know what you're looking for or you catch something out of the corner of your eye.
It goes way beyond "knowing" that when the clouds are dark and the wind blows hard, rain will fall in a moment or two.
When God is telling me to appreciate the little things in life, it's in the appearance of violets somewhere where you'd least expect to see them, for example.
Unfortunately, as nature changes because of the effects of man made pollution, so too does the visual story God is trying to speak to you through ... it's like Astrology, and you really shouldn't poison the stars. As nature goes more out of balance, so too will man. It's all integral.

I can imagine the comments that are going to come after I post this, but once time, about 7 years ago, God did speak to me aloud. He told me to do something to help babies and children, and it took me a few years, but I went on to start a children's clothing ministry. Christians talk about being "burdened" or "called" to do something. It's when there's something (often something you REALLY don't want to do) that you just can't get out of your mind, you KNOW you're supposed to do that, and your feel guilty for not doing it. I think that's another way that God communicates with us. It also comes through prayer. But you have to be listening to hear God (be it aloud or in your heart).

God speaks to you whether you want to take His advice or not, sometimes it can be such a suttle whisper that you may overlook it. Sometimes it can be a shake in the night of something He may want you to do for Him. God speaks in many ways, through actions, experiences and people you meet. So what makes God's voice different from a human? If there is no God what makes you want to do good? All you would need to do for life is steal things since you would only care about yourself and no one else. God is your conscience that tells you "I don't think you should do this."
