Don't feed them Iams...it's really not that good. There are much higher quality cat foods that you can feed them such as Felidae, Maxximum Kitten, and Natural Balance Ulta Premium Cat. Along with Innova Evo, Wellness Super5 mix etc...
Use this chart and see for yourself: http://everythingfert.proboards36.com/index.cgi?board=kristen&action=display&thread=1109195167
And you don't have the e-mail option allowed....there is so much to learn about ferrets I could type all night. The best possible thing for you to do is to pick up a copy of "Ferret for Dummies" by Kim Schilling and read it front to back. Then come back with any more questions ;). Also come and join Everything Ferret: http://www.everythingfert.proboards36.com/ . It's a wonderful community of ferret lovers!

I have owned ferrets before
Make sure that you have a spacious cage for them,, preferable 2 or 3 stories high.
They tend to sleep alot in the day.
Most people will tell you that you can just feed them regular cat food but I don't recommend that. They need the ferret food or if you are going to feed them cat food,, feed them Iams.
Get one young and you can train it. When they start to bite you will need to discipline them so they will get out of that habit.
My ferrets were very playful and liked to hide things,, one would get the remote and put it under the bed!!
They do have a "musky" smell and you will want to clean their litter box every day.
Do not keep them outside in hot climates. They cannot take the heat as well as they can the cold.
hope this all helps

My daughter saw a ferret at a pet shop one day and she says "Isn't he soooo cute" which I must say he really is cute. He looks soo sweet curled up in a ball and almost like a cat does when it is content and the world just loves him to death. She was all hyped up about getting a ferret. Not that I was going to give her one. ha ha She then all of a sudden says What stinks? I then explained to her that because Ferret's stink it isn't a good idea to get one. Those long sharp teeth don't help either. As they say sometimes... LOOKS CAN BE DECEIVING!!!!!

They bite, nibble, tear up things, sleep A LOT, have a STRONG musty smell, can hide about anywhere, get out of any cage or room and once bought, impossible to give away.
Save a cat from a local SPCA...you'll do more good.

I don't know much. A friend of mine has a ferret and she's really friendly. But here in California they're illegal to breed, sell, or buy. They have one because they had it before they moved here. You might want to check ferret laws in your state before getting one.
