I like to consider myself to be a spiritual person, & I do believe in God, but I have a really hard time believing some of the stuff out of the bible! The DaVinci Code on the other hand, could be the truth. It makes perfect sense...it's not that far fetched! I know it is on the fiction shelf, but they are referring to the story. The ideas they present about Jesus makes perfect sense to me! What's your take...and please...serious answers only...and none of those that just want to preach the word of God...as if they really know and they were there as a witness to everything that they claim happened!!!

It's more of a rhetorical question! Basically what are your thoughts on the book...and yes, the book! I have not seen the movie, but during the hurrican last year I read it in 2 days! I was absolutely enthralled!

1 It is a good book. That is why so many people have read it, and why so many people talk about it.
2 The only people who might be offended will never appreciate the questions raised in the text. They will not allow themselves to question their own belief system.
3 It was not 'inspired' by the other book. Well, it may have been, but the plagiarism case the answerer is referring to did not succeed.

To answer your question, it is neither. It is just a fiticious story. Did you believe that Jurassic Park was real when the dyno-DNA was explained on the first tour in the the beginning of the movie? If you think about it with an open mind then yes it is possible to reproduce dinousars as explained in Jurassic Park the Movie.
I do not believe Jurassic Park to be true for the same reasons I do not believe Da Vinci Code to be true. Are you letting the first page of the Priory of Sion (I spelled it wrong!!!) influence you for the rest of the book? I have found this out from people. Maybe this is the case for you. I could be wrong. Have you watched any of the TV shows that have been on Sci-Fi, History Channel, and I can't remember what else, but there have been other channels that have dedicated themselves to showing how incorrect Dan Brown's nonfiction is? If you noticed that none of the channels and also the programs were on a Christian related network. So if other people besides Radical Christians are saying that it ficticious then I think that is something to at least consider. If you feel interested there is a very intellegent Christian author who I have seen on many interviews on this subject that has his own web site on this and other related bible-issues. His name is Josh McDowell. Google his name to find his website and I am sure you will find some interesting facts. He also has written many books and he uses a very detailed bibliography for his research. So I would check him out.
Also you say that Dan Brown's book does make sense. I ask you why? Because he says so? What if I told you I was a Big Mac from McDonalds? If I said I was made up of this and that and smelled and tasted a certain way, would you then believe I am a Big Mac if I said so? The thing you really need to do is investigate the person's work. Whether it is Dan Brown or the Bible. You seem like an intelligent person and you are looking for truth. Do not let any one tell you what truth is without looking into it for yourself!!! This is what I do!!!! I need to be proved to. There are so many people out there that are good at tricking people. Do not let anyone do this to you.
GOOD LUCK IN YOUR RESEARCH

I am so with you! And I love the story so much! In the book, on the screen. I can watch it anywhere. I would love the story if the medium it was presented in was interpretive dance!
The real "truth" about Jesus Christ, it is fantastic and wonderufl, and yes full of potential flakes of truth, as there are many gospels that were regarded as 'not the word of god' so thus not included in the bible. It is so imaginative, and so wonderfully pro-feminine, from a historical period when the world's powers were so much more dominantly male than ours today (with exceptions like Cleopatra). I love the humble Dr. Langdon, professor of symbology, such a fascinating field, a man, Teabing, rich and old fashioned (and criminal) but with genuinely sincere intentions AGAINST the church and FOR femininity and Mary Magdelene. A dream it was, a dream indeed. If only such a thing was true, it would be wondrous and delightful. A true path to TRUE equality between the sexes...

Odd that you would consider a work of fiction more plausable than the inerrant word of God. . . but that isn't your question.
I do not put a lot of stock in the Da Vinci Code, because there is so much that can be said against it. During all the teaching of Jesus, he made no reference to His family (married family with children), nor is there a single reference to Jesus having children or a wife. Sure, there are a number of years missing, but to not have a single reference to Jesus and his family going anywhere, or doing anything?
Was he married and did he have children? I do not believe that he did, would it change anything? Perhaps - don't know what I would think of a person who knew he was going to be crusified and left a widow with a child and didn't mention who should take care of them at his death like he did with his mother.
On another side, what could be a better example of how a father and husband should act than Jesus?
Still, I prefer the Truth in the Bible to the "truth" of a work of fiction.

The Da Vinci Code is a work of fiction, just as The Last Temptation of Christ was fiction. There have been countless books written that have a Biblical setting. The same can be said of movies.
Just because something seems feasible, doesn't make it true. After all, Eric Von Dankien wrote several books about how life on earth began by extra terrestrial beings planting seeds here...LOL

The truth about the DaVinc Code can be found on the first page of the book. The author says it is a fiction. What else is there to say. It has nothing to do with God's Word.

IT IS TIME TO SET THE RECORD STRAIGHT.
The da vinci code movie is based on a book, to note a NOVEL. A novel, for those of you who do not know what one is, is a work of FICTION.
Book publishers tend to put books into categories and categories that are the correct ones for the subject matter.
I mean, think about it. These book publishers know what they're doing, they make millions selling their books so they put them in their proper category,
Well, they did not put the Da Vinci code in Non fiction, nor in History, nor in religion, they put it in the category the WRITER said it should go into and after they reviewed it(as they do with all books) they found that to be true and put it in the NOVEL category, which means it's a work of fiction. Don't believe me? Look it up in Webster's dictionary.
Furthermore let me give all of you something to think about.
You're the ruler over the entire Universe, you can do anything you want, make anything you want, go anywhere you want, yet you marry a prostitute???? Doesn't make sense at ALL so of course it's a LIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I know! when i read Da vinci code i too thought that it might be true. But it is a pure work of fiction. But i dont think there is no chance for that to be true.Who knows what all we believe is true and what is wrong. You know we believed earth to be flat until galileo saidd so and we believe most of the facts that the scientists say as proven. It never occur to us to think again.Right!Same way i thonk what if the da vinci people are right.I know that there exists pagan religion and i googled the knghts temple and its there too and the way they do things all are there. And there has been people who had wrote about this before. You know that jesus was married to Magdalene and all.But it is also not impossible for a person like Dan Brown who has immense imagination to think it up.You know that is what the most powerful instinct of a writer, making something believable.

The Da Vinci Code was based on the Gnostic writings. The Gnostics were, Christians, Jews and Samaritans. The Church of Rome tried to wipe them out. The largest collection of texts are in the Nag Hammadi Library. You can find it online. The Gospel of Thomas is the one I like the best and the one that the church Hates the most!!!
