Pro: some breeds live longer and "healthier" lives, no worries about having puppies, less territorial marking, less destructive, more passive
Con: will NO LONGER work for personal protection because you are removing the testosterone that makes him an aggressive protector, will gain weight FAST especially if not worked out, no longer useable as a stud, more accepting towards strangers,
Biggest downfall is if you are using him for protection. It is proven that those neutered no longer work for personal protection. The weight thing is bad but the protection is the biggest downfall.
I suggest, if you are NOT going to use him for protection work or possibly as a stud someday, than look into neutering him. If you might do either of the two, keep him in tact. unlike for human men, once they are snipped, there is no way back.

Honestly, there are no cons when it comes to having your pets spayed or neutered. Unless you consider the risks associated with the surgery itself. Since there are risks associated with anything; I would say that risks to the dogs health and well-being are much greater in a dog or cat that hasn't been spayed or neutered.
Bottom line: Big risks to your pet's health (and possibly your pocketbook) if you choose to not be a responsible pet owner and avoid having him neutered.

There's only one con for neutering, and that is if you wish to breed your dog. There are a million pros, most importantly, you can avoid future health problems, such as canine testicular cancer.

There is no downside to having your dog neutered. It is totally not true that they get fat - they don't if you provide the proper amount of exercise which you should be doing anyway. There is a good rule of thumb to follow: If your dog is fat YOU aren't getting enough exercise. :)
