You should talk to him... Let him know how you are feeling and see if he feels the same.... Sometimes you will never know if you don't try. Good luck.

That's a toughie.
Instinct is best bet.
However, ask yourself.. "what if"
In five years.. what will you feel when you see him again, with some loser of a girl.. ring on his finger.. and hers.. and they're holding hands. Would you regret never having asked him?
I say ask him. If you two hit it off and become involved in a relationship, but while he's away, he cheats on you.... oh well. It could happen if he lived right there too.. and that's just life. And yes, probably more guys cheat on a girl when they're away somewhere.. but that's not ALL guys.. you have to assess this situation with your best judgement.
If you ask him and you two get involved and he's faithful like I am to my now wife.. then you're going to be so happy that you actually spoke up.
Don't listen to people that say .. "oh don't do it.. he's too far away and it won't work"
My wife and I talked on the internet for 3 years.. almost 2 hours every day. And freaking she's from another country! Talk about long distance. Our fist date cost about $1,500.. that was just the transportation! LOL.
It's funny coz we met by pure chance. It was when I finally said to myself "ah hail.. I'll never find a girl.. I give up.. I'll work on my career instead" We then met after chatting on the net for all that time. It was the best thing ever. And we're both together now. Just as happy as any other couple.
If he's worth the risk, Go for it!
P.S. AUGH>! And don't listen to most these people.. a year and a half of knowing him.. missing the boat? What the flip? Maybe you two are just acquaintences.. say you know him because you frequent the same church... or maybe you're from the same school but you were with some other guy and things didn't work out so you're now looking.. People on here just jump to conclusions too quickly. Only you know the right answer.

If it's been a year and a half and you are just now trying to figure out if he likes you in a more serious way, you've missed the boat. Give it up and look elsewhere.

forget it i guess, for the most part. you could try to keep the relationship positive the last time you meet (in case you guys hook up in the future)
I'm assuming you're in high school and he's going to college. (or just put this in your context.) well think of it this way: you might not go to the same college as him, and you might meet a better guy.
long-term relationships are hard to keep, i know from experience the hard way.
so chin up, and embrace your independence :)

If you've known him for a year and a half and he's never given you any indication that he would like to be more than friends, he isn't interested.

Well it depends if you want to know or not. How do you feel about him? If you ask him then he well think you like him too but if you dont then I guess things stay the way there are.

I wouldn't ask how he feels about you. You might want to just talk to him though, and ask how he feels about going off to school and drop some hints.

Yes, ask him. request that he tell you the truth. Better yet, ask him what's wrong with you. then ask him what he likes about you. Listen to his every answer, and let his answers about what he likes about you, sink in and let it effect your decisions about him.

If he's going away, forget about it. If he does like you, what can you do? He's going way.
