I think you can. Its just that you can't visit your hubby's uncle's family. From what i know, only ppl who are direct kin to you that passed away can't celebrate occasions for 1 - 3 yrs, depending on their believes, (Direct Kin meaning Grandparents, Parents, Siblings, In-Laws)

It will still be ok for you to celebrate chinese new year, if you wanna avoid any 'troubles', then don't visit your hubby's relatives...

Yes, u still can. U need not have 2 follow their traditional ways. But only thing is that when u enter their place, visiting them, the atmosphere will be difference. U've 2 share the same miserable feelings that they're feeling but try 2 give some consoles.
Once u've left the place, u're now back 2 ur normal.
But don't forget 2 ask 4 ur husband's permission 1st. If he agrees & accepts this, everything will b fine. Otherwise, if he sticks 2 the traditional ways, then, sorry 2 u. U've 2 follow.

If you are a traditional person who believes in all the traditions and culture of your race, then you cannot. But if you are an open minded person, by all means go ahead and celebrate whatever happy occasions you have.

I think you can still celebrate. Coz when my uncle pass away I still celebrate CNY but my uncle's family can't celebrate tt's all. It also depends on individual family's practice too.

Was your hubby close to his uncle? If so, then put it off 'til next year. If not, happy new year!
