Military people get paid on a pay scale depending on your rank. Officers make more. Enlisted make less. They also get raises depending on how long they have been in the service. In response to clearroses22, each branch doesnt get paid different amounts its all the same. Different jobs in different branches have different incentives but we all get the same base pay.

It depends on what rank you are. You come into the army as a private (E1) and are promoted to higher ranks from there. A solider that has had less than 4 months of service in the army makes $1178.10 a month. Once you are married, you will get a basic allowance for housing (BAH) to live off post. It depends on what state and county you live in for the exact rate. For an un-married soldier, you must live on post in the barricks.

My husband is in the army and is currently an E5 (Sergeant).

It really isn't that much money. Trust me, my whole family is in the military and we aren't rolling in the cash. This website should help. The pay depends on your rank and many years you've been in service. The "O" stands for officer, "W" is for warranted officer and "E" is for enlisted. I hope this helps you!!
