I think it's all covered in "The Zombie Survival Guide: Complete Protection from the Living Dead" by Max Brooks.

Fully illustrated and exhaustively comprehensive, this book covers everything you need to know, including how to understand zombie physiology and behavior, the most effective defense tactics and weaponry, ways to outfit your home for a long siege, and how to survive and adapt in any territory or terrain."

Well first thing you need to do in a zombie outbreak is to find a place of safety. Some people might choose to barcade themselves in stores, market, mall, underground bunkers, etc. But wherever that may be, you have to make sure you have enough food and water to last you for how ever long. You also have to make sure that the zombies wont find their way in your shelter so you need to make sure everything is lock and barcaded. Of course leave room for escape if something should happen and you need to make a run for it. You will definitly need weapons and such and a group of intelligent people to survive for a good time. So make sure you don't hook up with a stupid girl and her dog or you are bound to die along with your group. I say stick with 7 to 6 people and no more or you will run out of food and supply very fast. The more people the higher the chance of someone screwing up or causing the whole group to get eaten by zombies. I would barcade myself on a large cruise ship and stay on the sea. Hopefully have enough food and water to last me the whole outbreak. Good luck and don't be zombie food.

haha yeah i kinda have that too. first a shotgun is your best weapon. smaller shot size more dispersion but honestly its a short range weapon you have about 35 yards if you get the right choke setup like a nice turkey super choke and then you dont have a big dispersion maybe 3 feet. if you go pistols get hollow point and for rifles get a lower caliber like a .270 minimal kick and flat trajetory unless you can get military hardware which is not legal so not really recomended. i would get as light as you can go on anything and short as you can get so you can move the best and fastest you can.
next there is the legend of salt, salt is a purifier and is said to keep creatures of the night from crossing it when used as a barrier (poured in a line on the ground)
then you have hand to hand. hand to hand should be a last resort as the closer they get to more chance of a bite or scratch so long bladed weapons would be a good choice but with out practice and training i would go with an aluminum bat agile quick and no chance of getting stuck. and finally a room in the house that can act as a last stand place, preferably on the second floor so you dont have windows breaking, and stairs can be barricaded against stupid undead and if nothing else you can destroy stairs and prevent anything from coming up them.
but the most important thing is to keep your eyes open. for the most part paying attention and a little forthought can go a long way weather it be zombies or just being prepared for any eventuality.
then you can also plan on which building you would go to. i personally like hotels minimal entry points and higher in the air and all of them have roof access which normally gives you one entry point in to your field of attack and if your lucky they are accessed by ladder so even harder for zombies to get up.
yeah i watch way to many movies and i have way to much time on my hands.

We are already protected from zombie attacks, simply by the nature of their nonexistence.

I really don't think that's something you need to be worried about. The zombies in Haiti were normal people that were just drugged with puffer fish toxin and other stuff.

If Resident Evil has taught me anything, it's to shoot for the head and it'll explode. That and using a shotgun. Those are always instant kills. Also, if you use a green herb, it'll replenish your health (just realized how potheaded that sounds...). And if you combine the green herb with a yellow and red one, it'll replenish your health AND increase it too. Happy hunting.
