I should add that when mine were younger it was nice when school started. So I do feel for all of you with younger ones becaues it's a nice break when their in school. It's just different when their older.

I'm with you, blonde_mom! It's really hectic during school time and my little girl and I are NOT morning people so we both have a heck of a time getting jump-started in the early AM hours! I usually pack her lunch the night before and get her clothes ready the night before as well. But I do love the summer so much more!

Winter here in Australia right now. I have two at school and two at home (pre schoolers). Next year after our Summer break I wilkl have three of them at school...I know my little girl is looking forward to going but I am the same as you. I love it when it is holliday time. They all sleep in until 9am or so and you don't have to race against time every day.
I love takinh them to the park and to the movies and the drive in cinemas and doing all sorts of out door activities. By next Summer we will have finished our renovations on a city bus..we are making it into a motor home right now. We will be travelling around Australia...in time before the kids are too old and do not want to go with us any more..due to being oh-so-cool teenagers, LOL!!!
Come on Summer..I hate Winter, LOL

Normally, when I didn't work outside our home, I would look forward to it, just to have those hours to do housework, prepare for meals, etc... but I'll be working while the kids are in school, so no, I'm not looking forward to it. Especially with all the football practices in between homework, dinner and bedtime, not much time left for much else. I hope your 12 yr. old has a good first day of school!

Ya know, I have to disagree. I have a 1 yr old (actually 13 months), a 3 yr old, and a 9 yr old. I wish they were ALL in school RIGHT NOW. The 9 yr old is looking forward to going back, she LOVES school! But I miss her during the day because she's someone to talk to and because she helps out with the two little ones sometimes.

I'm kind of in the middle on this one. I want school to start because day care is getting expensive. I'm also getting tired of hearing "I'm bored," the minuet we are not doing anything. On the other hand my son and I have had a decent summer, meeting new friend and the usual summer events.
My son is looking forward to seeing the friends he only sees at school.

I am disabled and raising two grandkids and I cannot wait for school to start.
No taking them with me all the time to the doctor, sleep in a bit, I imagine if they were older like your kids summer would mean more freedom, but for younger ones, off to school.
Come home and ask me funny questions and I will gladly help with your homework. Just do not get kicked off the bus this year...

I'm thrilled that my kids are heading back to school. No more "Mom, I'm bored", and no more paying a babysitter for all day childcare. My youngest goes to Pre K this year...Whoo Hooo. Now on the other hand I'm sure I'll be in tears on the first day of school, knowing my youngest is no longer a baby.

I wish it were longer too. My oldest is a junior and is starting to look at colleges for 2 years from now. I know the next two years are going to be insane with that. Yes, let the summer last.........
