Yahoo counts them up and you get little gifts to put on your computer screens. Personally the points don't matter as long as I can help someone who needs a question answered. Also you can pat yourself on the back for your helpfulness.

Nothing really, they are just for fun. You can't do anything with them, just ask and answer more questions, the more points you have.
