Is it really as bad in Iraq and Afganistan as the media reports? It just seems like the news only tells half of the story. (Generally the most graphic, bloody, or violent parts.)

To those in the military who are serving right now, I wish to say thank you! I can't begin to comprehend the sacrifices you have made in the past few years! Thank you so very much for protecting us so we can sleep at night and go about our normal daily tasks! My prayers are with you!
To those who have loved ones overseas, thank you for supporting your loved ones. I hope you can take pride in their sacrifices! My prayers are also with you.
God Bless!

I was in Iraq, the southern part, and it gets so miserably hot there, plus sand fleas, sand storms, and of course the fear of danger. There are ignorant decisions made by those in charge, there are things done by people because they think "it can't happen to me". We only had one man killed in our unit from a suicide bomber. We gave toys and school supplies to children and our medics went off the base to give free medical attention to the locals. They still look at the women soldiers strangely, but we knew they would. The hardest part for me was that I'm a single parent (who chose NOT to take the easy way out and stay home, because single male parents don't have that option) - it was hard to leave my kids with someone else, and hard on them, but we are together now. stronger as a family and closer to each other. Of course there are also all the nightmares with families breaking up because of seperation, broken hearts, and it's not a good thing to have a soldier receive that kind of news, it can be very dangerous to him/her and those around them. You walk around, everywhere with your weapon - just in case.
By the way, you're welcome.

I was in Afghanistan and the news did not nearly report 1/4 of the stuff going on over there. The good or the bad. Iraq has all the attention and no one in the states gets to see what the military is really getting accomplished besides the killing. That is not the only reason that we are over there.

My husband is there and has been for 2 1/2yrs now. Of course its a war zone so it it gonna be bad.. However, the news is very onesided. The old saying "if it bleeds, it leads", is right. They don't want to show you how the soldiers have taken, money out of their own pockets and bought groceries for some of those people, or help pay for heart surgeries, they only show the crap. How just a few soldiers do something horrible, and set the media standard for the rest. But try to keep in mind, it is a war zone, its not supposed to be pretty. If the insurgents would knock off the crap, then our guys could come home and let them govern themselves.

If you believe 1/4 of what the news media tells you, you are sadly mistaken..
The Military are doing a very good job protecting you and other Americans. People get killed in war.. The young, the old, and the Brave. That is the way it is.
The United States is at War. You can bet your last dollar on it.
Back the Military. Do not run them down unless you want to go take their place.

yes it is that bad and no sometimes it's not. If you believe the liberal media then you must think the worst because that is what they report. There are some good news stories going on over here but it's sad the public never hears them.

It is hot and the sand is very bothersome. Yes the media is not telling the truth. I have seen schools and hospitals built and nothing is said in the media.
A friend was in Afganistan and it is the same there.

It's far worse than the corporate-owned media in the United States reports.

My son just got home from Afghanistan and he said that it was not anything like the news shows.
He was able to shop and some sight seeing. There is some danger, but most of it he said was from our own people doing stupid things and not following orders.

It's far more dangerous to take a trip to detroit, then it is to take a trip to the average place in Iraq. Our news is intentionally misrepresenting the situation.
