Yes, it is a sin "to commit a sin" even if it is to stop someone else from committing a sin.

Sin is a deliberate thought, word, deed, or omission contrary to the eternal law of God.

With love in Christ.

No, I don't believe it is a sin to stop someone else from committing a sin because if you can make them understand what they were going to do was going to cause someone else harm or hurt feelings then you have saved someone from pain. You also have taught the other person a lesson by preventing them from doing wrong and maybe having to go back and say they are sorry or perhaps you kept them from going to jail or prison. I would say that you are a wonderful friend to keep them on the right track by explaining the consequences. Good for you. They will thank you later after they have thought about your good advice.

It is a sin, but it is what the motive is behind the act that what counts. If it is to stop someone from committing a sin, God considers it worthy of immediate forgiveness, even if, in the act of stopping the other person from sinning the person trying to stop them is killed and has no chance to actually ask for forgiveness.

depending on the sin... I mean if you commited murder so someone else couldn't..then I 'd have to say yeah, but if you (say in national treasure) stole somthing to keep it safe, then no, and if you personally don't think it is a sin, because you are helpiong someone, then you should either ask a priest, or just do it, becaue if you don't believe it is a sin, then the only sin you would be commiting was not listenin gt o your conscience...I know, I'm confusing!!! just ignor my answer, and listen to someone who has a better one!

hope all turns out well!

for example - if I saw someone molesting a child or raping someone or about to kill someone - I myself would use appropriate means of stopping that sin/crime. I would use force - and never kill anyone unless that was the only logical answer to preserve a life. ALWAYS taking a life should be a very last measure.

As for the typical sins people do (lying, cheating, stealing, cheating one wives, homosexuality and gambling and so on, we are NOT supposed to force them to stop - so committing a questionable sin to stop them would be dumb to risk one's soul to force someone who's heart is not changed to begin with.

Yes it would be. You even seem to admit as much in your question.

A good end does not justify an evil means. The fact is, the devil wants men to sin. If you sin to stop someone else from sinning, the devil still wins because he got YOU to sin.

It depends on what the various sins are...lol. Um...I would tend to think that the sin you committed would be for a better cause, and therefore less drastic than the one you were trying to stop... Unless, that is, you SHOT your mother just because she planned on lying to your dad about how much she spent on her newest pair of shoes...

Depends on the specific situation.

Killing of innocent life is a sin.

Killing a person in self-defense (or in the process of stopping them from killing another person who is innocent) is not a sin.

Having said that, we should try to avoid having the kill anyone if at all possible.

Cordially,
John

By your definition, yes.

"is it a sin to commit a sin..."

Logically speaking, the rest of the statement doesn't matter.

Wouldn't it be a sin to just let somebody kill someone when you could do something? You decide.
