The reason cats do this is because when mating, especially for males, it is the stimulation area for them before actual mating takes place. So, naturally, your cat is telling you, STOP, it is not "turned on" by you and basically, you're molesting your cat... [laugh]. However, I am serious that it would be like rubbing your inner thigh or your breasts in foreplay and to a cat it happens to be the stomach. My female cat doesn't mind it but for a minute or so, but my male cat will not tolerate it for a second, so I don't do it.

A dog won't let you scratch his belly if he doesn't trust you, but most dogs don't take too long to trust someone. Cats are different, and they take a while to build their trust. The belly is a vulnerable area.
The other reason that some cats don't like a belly rub, even when they LOVE everything else and melt in your hands when you scratch them elsewhere, is that they are ticklish. They don't react like we do - they just kind of freak. Give your kitty what she likes.

My cat was the same way. It depends on how the cat interacted with its mother when it was a kitten. Plus, most cats have spots that they like to be petted and not like to be petted. It varies cat to cat.

For the most part, cats don't like to be rubbed in this area. Stick to their heads and backs.

Just like some women, cats dont like being rubbed constantly across the nipples. It tickles.

My cat would only let people he was very close to touch his stomach, which was maybe... 6 people. Some cats just aren't comfortable with it. They only show their bellies if they are comfortable with their surroundings and feel safe.

My cat won't let me rub or touch her stomach either. She tries to bite me or succeeds then runs off to hide. If my son tries, she lays there & purrs, stretching out to give him more access. She'll even arch herself backwards to push her stomach out for him. Go figure.

Yeah, my deceased cat never liked that either. My new kitten however doesn't mind it for some reason. I guess I gotta wait until he gets older to snap at me.

Lots of cats do that.
Some cats love to have their tummy's rubbed, but many cats hate it.

my one cat loves his belly rubbed, my female one does not...she does the same thing..swats at me, snaps at me, etc....i just figured it was because i had her fixed and when i got her home, she started to chew her stitches off..so i had to take her back to the vet and have them fixed......so naturally, she doesn't want anyone to touch her there.....that's my take on it anyhow...i don't know if you had your cat fixed or not, but i hope this might have helped you if you did
